Currently learning Gallente Frigate IV & Gallente Cruiser I towards making a Vexor so I can do some nub missions whenever I feel like it + while I collect enough cash to make a Noctis. So, without further ado~

What should I be looking towards for salvaging?

Well, besides salvaging (obviously) train the core competency standar certificate. It will help you with everything you do in eve.

Salvaging V is a goal as this will allow you to use Salvager II. Salvage III is a must as this is what is needed to salvage tech II wrecks. You need Drones IV and Salvage II to get Salvage Drone Operation which will allow you to use salvage drones. You need Science III to use Small Tractor Beam I and Science V to use Small Tractor Beam II. I recommend Tractor beams as it is more efficient than flying from wreck to wreck.

Those are what are needed to be a salvager, If you are just after selling the units rather than consuming them and/or fitting your own rigs that you made.

If you are seriously looking into a future salvaging career, you should also plan to learn how to fly a Noctis (skill: ORE Industrial).

noctis, salvaging. rest is gravy. btw: i never bothered trying out salvage drones. can anyone tell me if they only salvage or also loot?

I should buy an Ishtar.

Actually they removed the need for salvaging 3 to salvage T2 wrecks. I've got salvaging 1 and was able to salvage Elite frigate and elite cruiser wrecks

Salvage drones are overrated. If you're already in a Noctis then they're pretty much redundant.

However... I've found that the free high slot and dinky drone bay on the Omen is perfect for putting together a tractor beam/salvage drone combo that makes it so that I don't need a Noctis.

Same thing with the dominix (armor-tanked): you don't really need the high-slots for guns. So you don't really need all the med-slots for cap-rechargers. Then, here is what i do: just a gun for loooooong-range aggro, drone range extenders (2 should be enough to send drones to max targetting range assuming you have average skills), tractors for loots, and a MWD (or afterburner, should you lack some of the main fitting skills). With the large drone bay, you should still be able to fit 5 light, 5 meds, 5 heavies, 5 sentries AND 5 salvaging drones.

That way, you'll easily salvage all the wrecks, and loot most of the big ones, since 3/4 of BS-sized NPCs are short-range...

(But if you want the potential extra-cash from the other loots, you should still come back in a noctis.)

Actually found a unique way to se a noctis, put 8 tractors on it and 5 salvage drones in it, drag all the wrecks in and then unlock everything release the drones and tell them to salvage (with nothing locked). go get a cuppa coffe check mails and chat with friends for a few minutes and your done. all you have ot do is open and empty the cans around your noctis.

AFK salvaging!

Yeah i know not the most eficient use of the bonuses but it is knda funny.

Things that keep me up at night;  Why do we use a voice communication device to send telegraphs? Moore's Law should state, Once you have paid off the last PC upgrade you will need another.

edit: too lazy to check, can the drones crack sleeper battleship wrecks? i faintly remember that they are not salvageable by just any noob.

As a perfect salvager (on my alt), Ore industrial 5, Salvaging 5, cybernetics so you can use the salvaging implants, jury rigging/armor rigging skill to 3 and 4 for t2 riggings and science 5 for those t2 tractor beams

All the above will give you an 85% chance to salvage per cycle, with a 96km reach at 2+km/s velocity on the beams. It is awesome.

And a side note, salvage drones are damned worthless in a noctis right now. I can salvage a full forsaken hub in ~4 minutes per site, the drones just slow me down.
