Tell me, why should it be OK for people to use bots ? Why should the rest of us just accept it ?
Like : "Mneh, if so many do it, then I guess we should join them or at least accept it"

This game was supposed to be about players. How do your AFK miners fit in this ?

And you call this extortion. Very well, let's say it is.
If scamming is allowed? Why not extortion ? Who are you to decide which behavior can stay and which should leave ?

Yeah it's like those guys from that one null sec alliance whining about putting characters inactive because they have 2 incursions going on.Not like they can do something about that.

Damn what's that alliance called again ... for the love of god i can't remember.

We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.

I am shocked this is allowed to happen. Out right extortion? Causing people to quit the game? And the fact that people are paying to see it done is the biggest surprise. I truly am astounded at the level of immaturity displayed here. All for the sake of some goofy role-play hook. Look I can understand being annoyed at the AFK miners, as I mine a lot. But to hound other people actually playing just because they don't fit into your narrow view of how the game should be played is flat out bullying.

Many times I have bumped an AFK miner away but I never tried to make myself look like a hero for it.
It's the extortion that I disagree with and I have an idea that's all this is about; targeting those incapable or unwilling to fight back. If you want to be a hero do something actually heroic, not picking on the little kids. You have the imagination to do something better and less mean spirited.

This is a game where you can pay anyone any sum of money to have anyone killed. Let that sink in. Contract killing is a pedestrian occurrence in Eve. Now put that in perspective of your whining over "extortion," that is, paying someone to NOT kill you. This is shocking to you? Are you 12?

As someone on that list, I feel that my 100 million ISK was a worthy investment and has been far outweighed by the quality of entertainment that the New Order has brought me.

So, in theory, if the miners bought enough shares of this company, they could take it over, vote James 315 out of office and turn his company into a brand new mining consortium?

I mean, it seems like a better investment for your 10,000,000 ISK, right? Oh wait... there are no actual shares of Experimental Fun Times Corp actually up for sale. Whoops! So what are people buying, then? A promise? Something in James's head? A post-it note that says "1 share" on it? I can only wonder.

I think you know perfectly well what we're buying, and just write as you do because it is the obvious argument.

What we buy when we purchase shares is the right to vote on certain issues that James makes public and, more importantly, an incentive for James to continue running the New Order. We get free value from the Order, it doesn't harm us to donate as thanks and to ensure that it will keep going.

The fact that people apparently get all buttmad over it means that that purpose is being served, incidentally.

Correct, I do know perfectly well what you're buying. You're buying a lot of nothing. Blasting mining barges into nothing using gank ships which are, in turn, blasted into nothing by CONCORD. End result of all your actions is debris. Last I checked the average value of debris was zero.

I actually have bought shares of companies in the past. When I look in my wallet it reminds me that I'm a shareholder & I can vote. Tangible proof of investment with tangible potential for a return on that investment. Something other than a zero sum conclusion.

You, on the hand, don't own any actual shares and therefore you have made no actual investment. Your voting power only goes as far as James315's goodwill and sense of honesty, and frankly I'd sooner trust The Mittani. This thread only proves that too many people have more money than brains.

What I'm buying is rage, tears, strife and grief. Moreover, what I'm buying is the ability to enjoy the benefits of all of the above (my own amusement, mostly) without actually having to go out and do it myself. It's exactly the same reason I opted to provide some financing for ST0NER SMURF and his pod-popping endeavors.

The lack of any tangible shares or non-zero outcomes is therefore irrelevant.

Now, rename James315 shares to "movie tickets" and everything snaps in place.
