PVP is boring!!!

Hi,

I've always heard EvE is mainly a pvp game so i thought i must give pvp a go at some point.. I have done that now and i must say i'm really disappointed. Solo PvP is extremely boring, most of the time to spend warping around from safespot to gate and back while looking for targets. Takes hours and then the actual fight lasts about a minitue and there is very little you can do apart from switching on all guns and setting orbit to optimal range. I definitely don't see the point in wasting all that time for a few seconds of pvp time. Then, i tried RvB to get some idea of fleet pvp. This might be intersting to the commanding FC, but you as an individual are just a pawn and once you get primaried that's it, not much you can do.

So i'm really failing to see how the PvP in EvE got this reputation. I hate grinding missions but at least you're making progress, warping between safespots for hours is just a complete waste of time. Or am i'm missing something here?

So you're complaining about solo PvP, in an MMO designed to reward group play? Hmmm.

Also PvP is not a combat only term. In Eve, even ship spinning is PvP.

That may well be so, but this isn't very appealing to me. Why isn't there chess with spaceships. Now that is a thought!!! :)

Group PVP (or should I say, PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPvP) is even more boring. At the pinnacle of game you sit in a POS for hours until scout finds something and tackles it, you bridge in, nearly instapop completely outnumbers and out-powered enemy, and then you make you way back to your POS while observing how much has your KB stats increased.

One man's cheese, is another man's chalk. The beauty with Eve, is it's variety.

You are definitely missing something, but only you can figure out what exactly that is.

For some people it is the hunt that provides the thrill for PvP. Using the available means of intel (don't forget the out of game ones) to stalk, ambush, or run down your prey before a good gank.

For others it is the thrill of the risk of fielding enormous amounts of isk (for them) in conditions where they can lose it all. Pitting your hard won resources in order to try and destroy the resources of your opponents.

Some folks thrive on the ability to apply the mechanics that will allow them a significant advantage, even over someone with a 'better' setup. These people manually pilot, understand the damage dealing, tanking, and EWAR systems of systems and how they all interact to ensure that they are leveraging a huge advantage against someone who only sets the orbit for optimal range and hits F1 when in range.

Some people love the depth of knowledge and have every ship and common fit in the game memorized so that they are mentally prepared for any situation and derive a great deal of pleasure in understanding as many variables as there are in that portion of ship interaction in EVE.

There are people who seek the 'angry' comment in local and blow ships up just to know that someone else, somewhere is mad bro.

And there are more....

Also don't forget the EVE 'PvPers' who never blow up spaceships at all, whether it be on a political, economic, or other venues for their player versus player strife.

---

So, yah. EVE is the best PvP MMO live in the world today, but the only person that can answer what about PvP is fun for you, IS you.

Nope! That's the gist of it. While I don't use safe spots and I tend not to look for "fair fights" because if you do you'll spend alot of time doing nothing but roaming.

Most of what you've figured out is pvp. Some make it out to be more than it is. It does take time and effort to get good at but it really boils down to what you've wrote. Was you get good. All thats left is collecting kill mails after killmails. Hoping that CCP introducing new ships or YOU come up with new setups. Either way.

Your not missing much. I think what is more important than the rest of whatever is the players interacting with each other. So, bros enimies frienmies haters and what not. So, focus more on the player interaction part more and you'll get the most out of this game. The rest is meh!

Thanks for the comments. @Rynnik: I figured out myself most of what you wrote and can confirm it but none of it does really tingle me much. I guess I have to find my own way, after all EvE is supposed to be a sandbox....

Like what? Pointing out that EVE PVP is extremely Rube Goldberg and tedious? I'm no "quake kiddie" or I would be over on Call of Dooty but PVP here is too tedious.

You won't find pvp warping between safe spots. Those are for when you don't want to be found.

I guess 'pinnacle' is described different by different people.

Is sitting in a POS waiting for a cyno to drop the pinnacle? No. It is A pinnacle. Another pinnacle you could say is to 'own' a system by killing everything that comes into it, weather it be frigate or battleship or cap ship. Even another pinnacle is to be the king of frig fleets, or know how to engage a shield skirmish fleet effectively.

For me, solo's fun every once in a while, but I like the the interaction of a small (anywhere from 3-20 in my opinion) fleet. But yeah, to each their own I guess.

You're missing the big picture. PVP is a means to an end most of the time. People fight for the right to things. That is why EVE PVP is touted so highly.

Things are only impossible until they are not.

FW is the best place to find all the pvp you want whether it's frigs, destroyers, cruisers, or higher (although you'll be plenty occupied with just frigs/dessy/cruiser).

Overall pvp in EVE is not so good to be honest. 1v1 is boring.

OGB makes everything lame and everyone complaining about it are the people who use it and know they will be horrible without it.

When you fly in a tiny gang like 3-5 people it's hard to find another group of 3-5 people to fight against, and when you do they typically run and call their friends and come back with 15-20 because losing ships is such a huge deal in eve apparently (i never got the memo apparently).

Anyway, if you want to blob around and be on the "winning" side of FW join minmatar or gallente FW.
If you want to learn to pvp and be on the "losing" side along with get blobbed all the time join Amarr or Caldari FW.

In Amarr/Caldari you'll probably learn more since you'll pretty much never be able to blob anyone so you'll actually have to learn what the **** to do to kill **** before you blow the **** up.

With regard to fleets and getting primaried: yeh you're ****** without logi (with as well in certain situations), but what you do when you're NOT primary is in my opinion what makes one pilot better or another regarding fleet.

Also, there are some things you can do for EWAR ships in a fleet situation that can really make a big difference (with the exception of ECM...which is the lamest **** on earth especially when you already outnumber your enemy...but losing ships in EVE is worse than getting cancer apparently so no one wants to get into a fight where they might lose something).

Finally, regarding solo or tiny gang pvp, you may see a lot of targets flying around and such. the problem is no one wants to take any risks so most people tend to take fights they believe they have a 100% chance of winning and coming out alive without losing their ships. Most of the "solo" pvpers in minmatar FW have this mentality. In Amarr, there are a lot of people who realize that who gives a **** if you lose a ship.

Overall though, yeah pvp can be pretty boring/lame in EVE but FW is the best place for pvp if you don't mind playing the sovereignty game.

On another note, if you join Amarr (can't speak for caldari) you're probably going to run into a lot of pirates who are "blue" with the minmatar. Losing ships is so scary that even big bad piwats won't fight the minmatar so they just "blue" them. This is with respect to many of the pirate corps that live in the Amarr/Minmatar warzone.

Some people are gonna hate me for this, But I like thie Dan guy!

Also if you want fun blob warfar, fly logi! its a lot of fun to be in a cap chain, swapping chains depending on ECM hits or if someone pops / dcs and trying to land reps in time

it is really fun to fly logi in null when you get hit by a good bomber run....damn its messy!

I like DCM too!

TBH it's character like him and others in FW that make it fun. With out these characters most of FW would just be a whinge fest.

I have found FW to be the most 'active' area of the game to get fights. weather of not you actively participate in it.

To the OP I would ask what do you WANT out of pvp in eve as it mean different things to different people?

Myself, I want fights. Simple as that. I fly cheap usually so I can lose plenty without worrying about it. I like fighting outnumbers/outgunnned if there is a chance to split up my opponents etc. I'm not particularly fond of being ganked by overwhelming force (blob is so subjective I generally don't like to use the term as it mean different things to different people) I also like to pirate on occasion and wander off on my lonesome and see if I can catch some ratters/miners/industrial type in random area of low sec. It has a certain zen thing about it that allows me to 'switch off'

In eve (not just pvp) you need to find out waht you want to do and make it happen otherwise you will jsut wander around lost.

Keep looking and i hope you find it as eve is an awesome game!

Balance is everything.

Tip 1. Stop staying in ******* safespots... They are generally you know.. pretty safe.. and target free.
