I cannot remember ever having seen a good american science documentary.
Your TV networks overdramatasize, trivialize and sensasionalize them far too much.
The preview demonstrated those tendancies quite amply in the 30s runtime.



Awesome Drama's, excellent Light Entertainment, lots of amazing films .... but they just cant do good science.

to be honest kutty bear has a point

alot of people outside the USA have the same prejudice about documentaries made by and for american networks
too mzny ancient aliens and other nonsense you know
Doesn't mean however that all of them are of the same level , there are many good ones aswell

Oh god I can't believe, still, that History Channel shows that nonsense.

Lumping in those fake documentaries with things like "Supersize Me" and trashing them like the above poster is quite nonsensical as far as criticism goes.

2nd breakfast edit: The Iceland volcano shows are being almost endlessly re-run here on Tampa FL PBS. But this state is known for advancing the Doom of the World........especially with their voting tactics, but that's another thread altogether.......

The film signs had nothing to do with aliens, it was about a man dealing with the death of wife and coming to terms with a crisis of faith in himself and his beliefs.

The aliens in the film were an allegory for the 'hidden truths' in all of us, which we decide to acknowledge or not, and it is only when we do that our lives can be bought back into equilibrium.

That's my take on it, from a scriptwriters perspective.

Problem with American science documentories is that they feel they have to show a new image every 2 seconds and then repeat that image every 10 minutes with over the top dramatic music. That morgan freeman space serise didn't even have very much science in it. Just philosophical ramblings that sounded great with his voice (what doesn't) but ruined the show.

When you put them up against things like the BBCs Horison science documentories they just seem...poor. We Brits have a gift for making beautiful documentories.

Life on fire is a rather good series thats been on Eden a few times now.
