scams: place in global Eve Online Economy?

there was interrupted by profi-troll discussion in local chat about scammers and their place in global Eve Online Economy.
I think it may be interesting to discuss.

Usually people say: Eve is game when you will be ganked/scammed/whatever.
Gankers blow stuff and make industry work. The more stuff get blown - the more healthy Economy we have.

Scammers on the other side deal with ISK and stuff. The difference between legit market transaction and scam is: scam makes people think he gets something better than he will. Remove people opinion from scam and you have legit market transaction.

PS: i don't speak about margin trading scams here. It is another question.

So i personally think scams are just another toy for Eve Online players. Like chat-channels/interesting places in Universe/TV in Captain Quarters/etc...

However i've seen another opinion: scam moves money from "less smart" (let's be polite here) person to "more smart" one. Less smart people tend to waste more ISK and sink some ISK into taxes. The more smart people use ISK more intelligently and thus pay less taxes. So scammers safe some ISK from sinks and thus increase global inflation Shocked Personally i don't think this is right Lol

Would be good to hear another peoples opinions here.

Scamming simply means never having to say you're sorry.

As for the movement of money from suckers to scammers, there's nothing you can do about that. The smart people will always find ways to acquire more isk. The solution isn't to prevent scamming, the solution is to implement isk sinks that the scammers will participate in.

edit: also, "it's not fair" is a horrible line of thinking. How is it unfair that smart people are able to outperform stupid ones? Is it also unfair that pretty models make more money or that faster athletes are better paid? If I'm able to outwit you in a game, I SHOULD BENEFIT FROM THAT.

Thank goodness there is no New Eden trading standards board. Heaven forbid I pay my own subscription.

Scamming is acceptable.

Margin trading exploits... these exist because it would put too much strain on the DB to remove orders when there is not enough ISK to cover them. Regardless of CCPs official stance, they might as well be dictionary definitions of "exploit".

Scamming by spamming contracts 23 hours a day using macro or script injection.... should be banhammered, but CCP doesn't seem to give a damn.

A scammer takes from the unworthy and unsuspecting, possibly teaching them a valuable lesson while doing so.

On the economic side the victim is then left with 2 choices: either learn from past mistakes and regain what was lost through hard work or give up.

This again.

Scam -??? Alright

But spamming stupid contracts in Jita = botting. These stupid contracts contain scams, but they are posted every 1 minute or more.

This sort of activity is bot spam.

Legit scamming must be a part of the game. Spam botting must be not.

If you wish to legalize botting, free voluntary gameplay will cease to exist. EvE is only dead, when players abandon it, letting bots and scripts harvest the cluster.

This post sums up why the 'best' work with DCM inc.

Scamming is unacceptable.

Its profiteering off the weak.

Just like when PVP "Masters" pad their kill mails with barges. Sad really.

Yes, it's God's work really. Wealth is magically transferred from those who have too much ISK to those who want more and are prepared to do anything to get it. It simulates real life very well, despite the fact that it's quite annoying.

Except every turn around the circle puts another dozen dollars in CCP's coffers and helps finance the game we all love. I can live with that.

Usually it's more like the dumb preying on the utterly stupid to be honest.99.99% of the scams are just copies of working ones.I admit the 0.01% is the clever people who find a new way to work a scam.

We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.

There is far more to scamming than posting dumb contracts in Jita local mate.
