I have a friend that got me to play the free Star Wars, the old snore fest and I talked him into trying the free 14 day trial of eve. He was so impressed that I resubbed a few days ago. Now with the lastest expansion, some things are as clear to me as mud.

1. I want to be able to teach him how to practice combat against me just 1v1. So how do you now do that without giving the entire system permission to join in one big love the pain fest? It was so simple to can flip in a empty system with one round of ammo. Also, what is up with this safety button.

2. Why this stupid bounty thing? My new friend which has zero time gets a bounty slapped on him and now it's making him have doubts about playing.

Comment warning: I really got to say it seems this new expansion made things seem more complicated and it added a new grief system without any risk to the person that just slaps out a bounty. It seems a grief system that could prevent new players from paying for a sub imho ( wtg CCP ). I'm in old timer so I understand about risk but the game used to in the past strive for a balance to encourage new players to become the bottom food for the top feeders. But this just seems like putting a sign out to new players that says "Think twice before you pay". Sorry for my soapbox but I want to see the game succeed, not fail like a lot of good mmo's are doing.

So.... how much is your bounty?

1) You'll have to do the whole scan flip thing still and deal with going flashy yellow to the whole system, just do it in a off side corner of the system.

1.a) The safety button is to replace the old system that would ask you "are you sure you wanna get toasted by concord?" before doing a criminal act. It also prevents new players from just clicking the message away, ignoring it, and getting concorded accidentally. Having the safety on prevents you from doing anything bad (including looting from someone).

2) Bounties have been around before they've just been expanded a lot. Before, bounties could only be applied to a person with a negative sec status. The problem was that not all people we want dead have a low sec status. This meant having to make generic announcements to friends and allies that you'll offer 50 mill for a guy's corpse or something. The new bounty system fixes that. You can now place bounties on anyone and even place them on whole corps and alliances. This bounty does not mean that the aggression rules change for you or anything, it simply means someone somewhere wants you to die.

And while we're on the subject they finally fixed the problem where people podded themselves with an alt to claim bounty. Now a bounty can be claimed from any ship kill, not just pod, and the bounty paid out is only 20% of the estimated value of the loss, thus guaranteeing that the person you put a bounty on will eventually lose 5x the ISK you put on his head.

The only reliable method of doing it is having him join the same corporation as you. You can of course find a nice empty lowsec system or such, but joining the same corp is probably what you're after.

You can ignore it unless you have hundreds of millions slapped on you and happen to be flying squishy Tengus etc.

Just make a safe spot and do your can flipping 1v1 stuff there. Make sure your ship names have been changed so someone doesn't think to scan you down.

As for the bounty system, they mean nothing pretty much. No one gets kill-rights on you and the "griefing" is in your head.

Thanks for the answers. I assume anyone in a non npc corp can just go to any system and open fire on a corp member at anytime without concord or this new criminal stuff flagging.

Yeah, I made this mistake of showing my friend through Jita. Seems like bounties are like candy there for the kiddies. I like the idea of finally putting a bounty on anyone myself that deserves it. Low bounties will be like bumper stickers on cars, if you can read this, you're following too close...

1a. make a safespot, do it there, stay at the safe until your timer is down
1b. if 1a is too risky for you, be in the same corp and you can pew all day w/o reprecussion

2. bounties are not killrights. just because he has a bounty on him doesn't mean he can be shot. he's still pretty much safe, just means IF someone kills him they will get some cash. people will put bounties on other people these days just because they can, it doesn't really change anything.

1) Go to lowsec or just do it in a safespot (remind your friend about the timer.)

2) Explain to him that bounties are like pets in the WoW-style MMOs he's played: vanity items the nice people give you.

No, the reading part was too much effort. Now all they have to do is to not push a button...

1. Join a corp together.

2. Explain how the bounty system works, and he'll see that the miniscule bounty he likely has on him will not cause him to get ganked.

The bounty system notifies you of who put the bounty on you, so you're free to retaliate.

Good luck taking a newbie under your wing. Teaching is fun.

I guess you forgot to tell your friend about the harsh sandbox game eve is? Eve four years ago is as hard as eve is today, nothing have changed in that corner.

1: Make a corp together, join a corp together, fire up the testserver together. Drop a cans in a safespot you can steal from eachother.

2: The new freedom with bounties is better than an exploitable scam version, no? It may even get improved in the future, who knows. Its a sandbox, htfu!! And welcome back.

If he gets thougthful about this game because of a random bounty, you should probably warn him about undocking in a ship or pod all together :)

Life is just a 420 all the way home :) Please give me more of that chocolate brew!!

He's posting on the forums. It's already too late to save him.
