Games similar to EVE / Do you play any other MMOs?

You have been misinformed. Star Citizen will work, feel and act like a fully fledged MMO. The only difference to a "full MMO" is that in a certain battle you can only have around 60-100 ships.

Everything you do is tracked via the master server and wherever you go you will be placed in the same instance with other players, subject to the maximum limits and your preferences/friends list.

You will be able to fly with your friends, fight with your friends and if you so choose (by consenting to PvP at "high-sec" or flying to "low-sec"), you will be fighting other players who want to blow you up and steal your stuff (sound familiar?).

Now about sandbox elements, I would assume Star Citizen will have less at launch than EVE has now, but there is nothing to prevent SC to expand on those sandbox elements. Like discussed before, it won't have 1000 ship battles, but other than that, everything is possible.

I don't think people understand how EVE's MMO aspect works and how you are effectively "fooled" to think you're on the very same server at all time, whereas your character is just tossed from instance to instance all the time. Everything in EVE that is tracked "globally" can easily be tracked in SC aswell.

Fallen Earth?

It's some F2P post-apocalyptic MMORPG I once played. While the action element was kind of meh (not to say it was just bad), the crafting system... oh the crafting system! Almost all items in the game were player-made, from weapons to clothing, to healing items and even usable vehicles. The graphics were kind of bad too, low-res textures and uninspiring models... but everyone looked different because of the crafting system. While it's obviously not on par with EvE, it kept me interested for longer then the usual F2P garbage.

And these battle will exist in PvP arenas. PvP is 100% optional. Which makes it 100% not a sandbox.

You keep getting your hopes up, though. The disappointment will be all that much greater.

I only upturned your claims that SC will not be an MMO and that interactions will be mostly limited to chat. PvP will be optional, but it will restrict your playing somewhat, but if we are honest PvP is quite optional in EVE too, if you want to play safe. Sure you MIGHT get ganked in high sec, flying a low-value ship with nothing of value inside, but it's pretty unlikely. I don't think anyone is feeling "anxious" flying an implantless clone in a shuttle, at 1.0, with nothing in cargo.

I personally think that unconsentual PvP is a great idea on paper, but works poorly with people involved. Eliminating that from a game does not make it "100% not a sandbox", unless your definition of a sandbox is very limited. Unless you meant "not a 100% sandbox", where I can just say that neither is EVE.

Actually I do not think that EVE is surpassed in it's griefing capabilities. I've been on MineCraft servers before that have a massive griefing problem that affects loads of players - and to make it worse the grief is not by design or wanted at all.

On that note I would suggest MineCraft. Multiplayer it kind of has that sand-boxy / can-do-anything feel to it that EVE has. Also, when you build stuff it kind of has a similar buy-in to EVE.

There are no other good space MMO's. EVE is best. Super, super serial.

I rather like loss based, skill based pvp games.

These include Dayz, Pirates of the Burning sea (highly recomended) for pure pvp i play Dota 2 occasionally (not loss based, but you start from scratch every game.
Also honourable mentions to the first MMO ive ever played, Ultima Online :)

Thread moved from GD to OOPE. On topic I only ever tried Guild Wars, Rising Force Online and Lineage 2. I still haven't seen anything that holds my attention as well as EVE does, and I have to wonder if anything ever will Big smile - ISD Type40.

if you want game like eve try uncharted waters online

it got ships,exploration,bussiness side to it as well as pvp,pirating and people building cities

there is also kind of nullsec with free pvp and you can multibox

only thing different than eve is that its on earth Roll

I used to play City of Heroes/Villains, but the game got sacked 2 months ago. How I miss my cute carrion creepers :(

The only other game I play regularly is Heroes of Might & Magic (3, 5, or 6) in hotseat mode with some friends while getting drunk- I usually play the Inferno faction Twisted

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Yeah I have and I think the core of EVE wouldn't change much, if really at all, if PvP was consent-only in high-sec. Would eliminate a lot of problems and create very few in return. Would of course require some changes to wardecs and preferrably much balancing of the fabled risk vs reward, but revising those mechanics would not be a bad thing either.

Am not expecting it to happen, though.

PvP is not optional in EVE. It's impossible to be 100% safe. In Star Citizen, you can toggle PvP.

Star Citizen will never be able to truly reach EVE. It will have a massive NPC seeded market, the economy will be simulated by the server rather than be based on actual player interations for the most part. That, plus the fact that SC will have different servers with different rulesets, mods and private servers - It will not have EVE's single universe, adding to these complications even more.

Sorry to dissappoint, but Star Citizen is no more of an MMO than Battlefield. It will probably be a brilliant game, but no (direct) competition for EVE.

(Not to mention only 100 systems, max, and i'll not mention that Chris Roberts has a tendency to be somewhat overambitious - Lets be honest, his last actually good game was WC4).

Oh, and SC is twitch, EVE is not. Massive playstyle difference and another reason why they won't be competition for one another.








Back on topic:

As for actual MMO's that are 'sort of' like EVE, the only ones that come to mind are Darkfall and Perpetuum, the latter having taken quite a lot of 'inspiration' from EVE.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

If another game like Freelancer comes out where pvp is based on piloting skill and not skill points, and the pvp community aren't a bunch of belligerent jerks hellbent on just ruining other people's day, I'll make a very very quick switch.

EVE PvP is already dependent on piloting skill. A superior pilot can already outgun a player with superior skill points.

You are being fooled

Sandbox games can be 100% PvE or even 100% single player. It means non linear gameplay, no real ending, Mario Bros is not a Sandbox for instance, it has levels and when you rescue the princess you have won the game.

EVE players take it to mean any game mechanic unEVE like.
