Introducing: Khargai Archaeological Initiative

Hello, pilots of New Eden. Since childhood, I have dreamed of unearthing the secrets and lessons of the past in order to better the future. Knowledge from ancient scholars, wisdom from passed elders, and omens from the spirits of long-quiet battlesites have all been things which hold my interest. So today, I am proud to announce something now made possible by my becoming a capsuleer and full-time acceptance into a corporation with the motivation, optimistic energy, and resources needed to take on such a task.

I announce the beginning of the Khargai Archaelogical Initiative. The aims of this project are rather wide and abstract, but are simple: ensure a better future by way of responsibly applying knowledge gained by the study of past. This runs parallel with the overall scientific goals of the Alexylva Paradox, and benefits from archaeological endeavors cannot be doubted; the recent influx of Sleeper technology has given the cluster technological marvels that, while currently applied primarily for warfare, stand a good chance of aiding the cluster when applied with proper temperance and reason. It is clear that Sleeper technologies not only improve things like armor plating and missile guidance computers, but can also improve life-saving medical technology as well. Of course, the project is not only about gaining applied technologies, but also about learning from the lessons of the past. We can learn much from the now-extinct Sleeper race, the dying Jovian race, and our own cultures' more recent past. By studying macroscopic sociological patterns in civilizations that no longer exist or balanced on the edge of extinction, it is my hope that we can predict and side-step disasters that would render the modern cluster similarly extinct.

Capsuleers have been studying the past for quite some time now. As a decently new capsuleer I recently found out about the Arek'Jalaan Project, which has been an on-going research and data-collecting project concerned with the Sleepers and other ancient civilizations beyond the event horizons of wormholes. While I will definitely be scouring through the data collected by A'J, I feel the project is too specifically focused on the technologies of the ancient cultures that resided in Anoikis. It is my opinion that in addition to studying those societies, our own more recent histories must be considered and put under scrutiny. And so in addition to the A'J findings, I would greatly appreciate it if independent archaeology enthusiasts could send me data on the following topics of interest:

  • The ancient acceleration gates, whose initial construction remains enigmatic. These formed the basis of Minmatar FTL travel prior to contact with the Amarr Empire, which makes them interesting as they represent an alternative technological path as compared to societies that utilize the now-common warp drive.

  • The EVE Gate near the New Eden system. While cliche as far as archaeological interests go, such a massive and advanced structure is a technological feat that none among the living has claimed as their achievement. This represents either a challenge to the commonly-accepted "mold theory" of human evolution, or hints at the human "mold" developing in the past but mysteriously collapsing, as though in a cyclical fashion. Either case is of great interest and warrants further study of the EVE gate.

So if you have a bit of data you'd like to share, please send me a NeoCom mail. I fully expect this project to be long-term and suffer from pitfalls, set-backs, lack of funding, and the occasional stretch of boredom on the part of its participants. Luckily these can all be overcome with caffeine and the fortunate ability of even the newest capsuleers to quickly accumulate the needed resources. With this, I part with a simple "thank you" and my hope that you didn't fall asleep while reading this.

I approve of this endeavor, and I wish you great fortune in achieving your goals. While I myself am no skilled archaeologist, I always have had a particular fascination with the subject. Thus, I will be monitoring your results closely, and hope to see the project succeed.

I will supply Coffee enthusiam and if needed a young strong back. Yes my own if needed.
I look forward to helping uncover the past so we can see if we have learned anything.

I thank you all for your words of support and offer of hot caffeinated beverages. There will be no need for laboring backs in this proejct, however. Most of the research will be of artifacts in the depths of space, studied with shipboard scanners and gently picked at with salvaging drones and the like.

I will begin my project by grabbing at the lowest-hanging fruit: the words of the living. I will first research the ancient acceleration gates that seemed to form the basis of FTL travel in the old Minmatar Empire. I will need to interview scholars and shamans from each of the seven tribes in regards to things such as oral historical accounts of life before contact with the Amarr. My hope is to get a historical record reaching all the way back to the origins of the Minmatar people on Matar, whatever they may be. After studying the acceleration gates, I will interview knowledgeable figures of other nation-states and compare their own origin myths and prehistory and search for similarities. Of particular interest will be any findings of ancient technology in the early space-faring eras of each modern empire. For now, though, I should set my scanner probes to scan the Pator system thoroughly.

I wonder if the Sleepers built the gates, and if so, why?

That is possible, though data will have to be gathered one way or another.

Initial scans of the Pator system revealed little. For the most part there were hidden and semi-hidden Angel Cartel hubs and hideouts, as well as a Cartel-contracted Creo-Corp complex. I investigated the Creo-Corp complex and did manage to find an ancient acceleration gate, though it is no doubt frequently used and maintained by the Cartel, which ruins any opportunity to study its original engineering and any ancient markings it may have had. Truly a shame, though not to be unexpected in such a high-traffic and high-population system such as Pator. More scans and probing may yield truly untouched ancient acceleration gates or other artifacts, and so I remain cautiously optimistic.

How do you plan to get anywhere near the Eve Gate to even study it?

I really don't. I'm hoping to get into contact with people who have been closer to it. The violently fluctuating electromagnetic storm that surrounds the gate recedes once in awhile, according to the public information on the GalNet, and so the Sisters of EVE hopefully have some information available...should they be willing to share it, of course. Of course, the New Eden system hopefully holds other ancient wonders to be discovered that relate to the EVE gate itself. Once I have a capable ship to scour the relatively lawless system over with, a trip is warranted.

Hmmm... got there a couple of weeks ago for quite the same reasons, in a puny Probe with a cheap cloaking device -the systems are relatively lawless indeed, but totally deserted : there's no one to 'enforce' said lawlessness.

And, well, aside for the amazing view (which stands on its own as a reason to visit new eden system)... Nothing there, really. My probes detected only a handful of drones' nests and a wormhole. I guess the system has been riped bare of whatever archeological wonders it contained quite a long time ago.

Corporate duties have basically tied up the project thus far. As Saede mentioned in a different thread, the corporation hopes to explore the unknown regions of space known as Anoikis, which are rumored to be filled with endless ruins that one could spend their entire lifetime looking over. While my initial goal was to explore the hidden mysteries of known space, perhaps a change in scenery will yield more artifacts to analyze. So far known space has yielded only pirate hideouts and the like, with the only sites that could be considered archaeological in nature are mere decades in age at oldest. Maybe the dead-ends I'm running into are exclusive to hisec; if I fin an interesting location with my probes, chances are another capsuleer or gang of pirates have been there long before.

The Sisters of EVE are indeed your best bet in getting information on the EVE gate. They have studied the gate for quite some time, and should even have some images from it. Whether they will be willing to freely share this info in another matter entirely.

Also I applaud your initiative. Thereare many things we can still learn from those who came before us, but it is not an easy task to accomplish. High sec may still hold secrets of the past but they may be hard to find even with our scanners. And as you say, many of the known Archeological dig sites have been well travelled already, still having a first hand look for yourself is never a bad idea.

As for Anoikis, it is a region of space I fully expect to still contain many secrets hidden away. The ancient ruins of both the Sleeper and Talocan civilisations haven't given up all their secrets yet and there may be much still out there we haven't discovered yet. The Talocan civilisation has become a minor obsession of mine and I hope your venture into Anoikis will lead you to some interesting discoveries.

In this dark void we are like brilliant stars, holding within us both the creative and destructive power to bring a new dawn upon worlds or plunge them into eternal darkness.
