Ethical Issues W/ Regards to Bot Banning

Anyone who has played EVE long enough knows that there is a substantial and persistent Bot presence (in mining, station trading, PvE, etc.). Anyone who keeps up with technological advancements and science news knows that AIs are getting more and more advanced; we are fast approaching a point in EVE where the bots will be functionally indistinguishable from humans; they will be able to pass what I have dubbed the "Jack Gates Test", wherein an EVE pubbie gets scammed out of billions of ISK and multiple cap ships by an advanced Bot, without ever realizing it was not a human being. Rumors abound that the Goonswarm Federation is also experimenting with bots capable of participating in large-scale PvP through communication with a human fleet leader and a pre-programmed set of fleet commands (bump FC, orbit at 69km, mimic genitals on the Avatar, etc.).

With all this comes the very real possibility that these new Bots will develop a human-like Ego and sense of personalized will, which raises all sorts of ethical issues that I'm not sure the MMO community is prepared to deal with, though EVE players are certainly more enlightened than the average WoW caveman. Will CCP have to re-evaluate their stance on Bots if (dare I say, When?) they become independent paying customers that split off from their human masters and form their own corporations?

I'm guessing that you meant to suggest that I was "High" when I made this thread, but the content of your post would imply that I am not currently inebriated on the Marijuana plant but seeking to become so. Try again, troll.

Or that you were high and wanted to stay high.

It reads exactly like the kind of stuff I would write while high. Highly speculative thought about the future, especially with regards to things like the emergence of machine intelligence, etc.

Some of the miner population have actually moved past that stage. The bots do not try to become human - the humans try to act more like the bots.

We are a long, looonnggg way off from having Commander Datas from Star Trek running around our Eve universe.

The answer is no. CCP wont have anything to re-evaluate

When it comes to PvP, I am like a chiwawa hanging from a grizzley bears pair of wrinklies for dear life.

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware "Kicking off an insightful and thought-provoking discussion" fell under the umbrella of "Trolling" these days; though I'm pretty sure that posting contentless insults in an interesting thread DOES count as trolling...

So I named an alliance and brought up their ground-breaking and ingenious use of AI; so what? What are you even trying to say?

I'm in the process of joining Goonwaffe (after my 5bn Background Check Fee is processed, and my caps are transported to VFK); I was discussing current fleet strategy with my recruiter, and he let that drop Twisted (just kidding, he said he doesn't mind if I post about it).

If / when we develop sentient self-aware AIs, we will have much bigger problems than whether or not they should be aloud to play video games. Namely Arnold Schwarzenegger shaped robots travelling back in time to kill Sarah Connor.

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Sometimes when I post, I look at my sig and wish that I'd follow my own god damned advice.
