While I appalud the change that made "Keep at Range" and "Orbit" settings save to the specific ship type, why not go a step further and make these settings a part of the fitting window, thereby making these settings specific to individual ships rather than just ship classes?

They could just be blank text boxes:

Orbit at:_________

Keep at Range:_________

If not filled out during fitting, then they just revert to that ship's class setting. If they are filled out during fitting, they are saved with the fit and are loaded with the ship when you make that ship active.

This way, if you have a long-range and a short range ship of the same class, you can still save these settings individually.
