Walking On Planets = Dust.

Why re-invent the wheel?

You'd like to think Walking on Planets = Console only FPS

Some of us have other ideas about that....

I'd like to think that CCP, having spent millions of dollars on developing a way of walking on planets in the New Eden universe, wouldn't then go and spend a whole load more money on developing another way of walking on planets in the New Eden universe. I'd like to think that CCP are investing their finances wisely on innovation and new things for players to do.

If Dust flops horribly, there may be planetside (heh) activities that can be salvaged from the wreckage and incorporated into WiS gameplay. Until then, CCP would be better off focusing their Avatar-based efforts on the in-station activities they have been promising for the last 6 years, and making good the scar on their name that was Incarna, rather than running off to chase the latest shiny thing.

True, things seemed to have slowed down, but (some) WoD tech can be used for WiS.
Right now, CCP seems to think that EVE players are not rooting for WiS. They do know there are people rooting for WoD, so I think that will likely contribute a reason for the development of technology needed for WiS.

CCP haven't exactly provided much encouragement for the general Eve player to 'root for WIS'.

I just thought the lesson was don't believe any long term planning CCP says it has. The dream of WiS has been around so long now and nothing but waste has ever occurred.

So I just take any statement from CCP, when they say they are putting off a feature due to blah blah as you might as well call that feature dead for a period of time from 6 months to the final trump (The later being the most likely)

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!

That's not quite true - they've provided a fair bit of encouragement, with some extremely enticing tech demos, a few gorgeous looking trailers/concept videos and so on.

What they haven't provided is much reward.

Actually, no. This will be explained in detail in the upcoming Summit minutes but the TLDR is that WoD and EVE are developing along separate code lines.

Oh, wow, that's cool.

So we have:

- Avatar technology for DUST 514, using Unreal Engine and is not good for EVE
- Another avatar technology for WoD, which is not good for EVE
- The spoils of Incarna avatar technology, which has been abandoned and has never served any purpose in EVE
- And the idea to develop a new technology for avatars for a kind of FPS(?) in EVE within two years ("the prototype")

So, four things and nothing is what we expected of Ambulation / WiS / Incarna / whatever next.

It is disappointing to say the least. The thing of CCP with WiS looks like a guy who insists on juggling chainsaws when he don't know to have three balls in the air...

All I really want from CCP is for them to deliver an expansion that is complete. Not something that they need to reiterate on. Not something that they promise to fix later. But an expansion that from launch feels complete (as Apocrypha did)

I would love for the POS revamp to be a modular system that includes WiS interiors .

But I feel the days of Apocrypha are long gone.

Sell World of Darkness or get it over with in 2013.

Seriously, nobody cares about Twilight Online when we could get both FiS and WiS expansions and meaningful, bug free content twice a year.
Actually, I'm quite looking forward to WoD, and I think CCP should, in theory, be the developer best suited for the job, as they already have a dark universe where players can portray near-immortal demigods that gradually, or not so gradually, lose their humanity. In fact, I might leave this universe for WoD when it comes out, at least for a while. And calling WoD Twilight Online is inappropriate, IMO.

I actually think that without WoD development, WiS development will be slower.

I agree that CCP should not sell World of Darkness...instead a stake should be driven through it and it should be burned in garlic so the horrid thing will never rise again. Every scrap of resources wasted on twilight online down to the paperclips and snacks in breakroom refrigerators should be reallocated to supporting EVE. The incompatible-with-EVE code should be marooned on appropiateobscurity island never to be spoken of again.
