Scan Strength Predictions - Excel Sheet

Hello fellow explorers,

I'll be quitting EVE (no, this is not a scam) and I thought it would be nice to publish my own little contribution to the numbers game.


SUMMARY
I've created an excel sheet that predicts the maximum attainable signature strength, based on your character's Skill, Implants, Ship, Equipment and number of probes used.
The formula presented is an empirical one: it is based on hours of in-game measurements and gives the correct results, but it is not the actual formula used; just a (very precise) approximation.

THE NUMBERS
The formulas have been confirmed to give the correct results, up to four significant digits, for EVE Retribution (v1.0.7).
I made sure the predicted results will never be larger than the actual observed numbers.

Maximum Signal Reported Strength = Base Sensor Strength × Signature Strength × Probe Multiplier
Where:
Base Sensor Strength = the strength of your probes + skills + ship, etc
Signature Strength = the strength of the signature, these come in several different bands
Probe Multiplier = a / (b + (Number of Probes + c)^d) - offset
With:
a = 2.271279673850E-09
b = 1.123440052119E-09
c = 13.425237706172
d = -7.730882605523
offset = 0.766607925235

Very good build and very up-to-date. +1.

As I suggested before, a rookie tutorial on how to use this would be most helpful. For one who knows what they are looking at, it is self-explanatory. For a rookie, it probably looks like a calculator and a science book had an orgy and this is the fluid result.

EDIT: It looks complicated for a new player.

Interesting and a nicely laid out and clear spreadsheet.

One question: How are you meant to use this information in a real exploration sense?

Is it to show you what you potentially can scan down (based on getting to 100% on the scan strengths?).

What I'm asking is that do you use this spreadsheet in conjunction with the site scan strength list (can't remember who's it is or have link) ?

It's how you gauge what the kind of site it is you are scanning down when it is "unknown". These values you can get a "feel" of what a site will be, before you actually scan it down to it giving a site type or description. If you explore a lot, you will know what I mean.

Also, if you are well into scanning, as St Mio will tell you, it will help to find out what sites are "good" when using deep space probes and frequency bands (I can't comment here, I only have scanning to 4 at the moment).

I also do not understand the point of this. My best guess is that this lets you use your probe strength to distinguish signature strength bands for those whom haven't trained astro 5 for DSPs.

Considering that (almost) every signature band has multiple signature types, whatever "feel" you get is not useful. "Hard" combat site vs "Hard" grav vs "Hard" radar.... does absolutely nothing for you.

Agreed, though I can tell you 80% of the time if what I'm scanning down will turn into either a jaspet grav, or an unknown wormhole, by how quickly the sig strength goes up as I scan with my method.
