I dunno... teh gheys over at the local ghey bar don't look hairy ......

Let me tell you about the Lone Star Saloon here in San Francisco.

Also, the Kevin Smith produced documentary Bear Nation.

Apparently it's a TV series now too: http://www.logotv.com/video/bear-nation/1649850/playlist.jhtml

P

Yeah, and let me tell you about the bar called 'Rawhide' in Chelsea, Manhattan. Everybody in black leather with big moustaches and those leather cop-like hats. I used to have to walk past it every night after I parked my car. Yeah, I'll admit, I always walked a little faster going past that one. The worst was when my airline pilot friend and I walked by, and my friend was in his little uniform and toting his little pull-bag. Man, he got a lot of attention from the locals. Smile

Those guys especially are harmless and at heart they are all kittens. I did years of fundraising events in San Fran with the "Leather Community" as they were the best and most aggressive at that kind of thing as well. Hardly anyone else steps up to the plate.

If they do get aggressive, there is no excuse, and it's just a s bad as men directing unwanted attention towards a woman. There just is no place for it. Gay men know when someone is straight, and most do behave. It's really inappropriate to make someone oriented differently feel uncomfortable. In San Fran it is astonishing how many straight guys would hang out at the Eagle on the back patio for the Sunday Beer Bust. Beer, food, BBQ, and classic and new Rock. And everyone respecting that boundary. There just are not that many places in San Fran even where that can happen. Even the similar atmosphere at the straight biker bar Zeitgeist isn't quite the same, although they are accepting of 'others' hanging around.

Sorry that happened to ya'll in NYC, but it does tend to be a bit extreme there, especially back in the 70's and 80's if that's when all that occurred for you.

Well, now that the OPs question is sucessfully solved, lets answer the next question:

How does one get a boyfriend?

I heard personality is key...thats what men are after, right?

Edit: Also having a pulse is important. Very beneficial when trying to woo someone.

At today's prices, a 125 lb person in gold is worth ~3,300,000.

Which is why slavery died out; people aren't worth their weight in gold.

Yeah, the S.F. guys have good boundaries. I used to work there too (but lived out in Contra Costa Co.) The NYC community people are a little more, what.. "aggressive." But then again, so is everybody else in NYC. : ]

what I know is... after paying more attention to things I enjoy, I have gobs of free time and more extra cash

gaining perspective has ruined some of the wonder of 'liking' someone, but... there's been some benefit ^

//i bought plex to gift my roommates and some other people for christmas, and it made me think about how awesome it would be, if I had a significant other with whom plex was received as a valid anniversary/occasional present. not that I think it's worth it, but it would be nice. [with/to whom blah i'm groggy]

I know it always sounds trite, but it is very true that you cannot know or love someone else without knowing and loving yourself first. Most of us, myself included, missed that in our 20's.

I think that's also a main reason for the massive failure rate of most marriages, etc. (Also, a main reason for so many not coming out of the closet until in their late 30's and 40's. I know hundreds this has happened to).

meh, yah. my 20's were a blur. I recently tuned 30, and I have declared the next decade my "dirty thirties."

Let's just say I moved to San Francisco 6 weeks after I turned 30 and leave it at that P

You must be a very young child to not understand the concept of subjectivity.

Therefore, this thread is not for you. Leave.
