Also, you stated that you'd like to hear some suggestions for the launcher. Do you mean small, mac-based ones, or a bit larger iterations for the launcher in general?

Keep up the good work!

I'll take anything you would care to offer.

Now that we have Sisi, buckingham, duality and god knows whatever else test server comes up, would be nice to be able to click Duality and have it make a duality folder....

EvEclonemaker is still a multi boxers best friend, integration would be awesome or some other way to allow multi boxing

Having a login in the launcher and being able to choose a account or even characters would probably be too much to ask....

Thanks for your ideas. One of the reasons for doing the embedded browser is actually that; login enabled within the Launcher. We've been looking at the reasons people have for using multiple accounts (from in-game competitive advantages to simple control over settings) and we want to revisit many of the concepts that went in with the game's creation 10 years ago, that have never been revisited, with new technological improvements, over the the years.

One of our blue sky ideas is login in the Launcher, where you might be able to chat, post to the forums, etc, before selecting the (saved) settings you want and then starting the game.

Basically everything's on the table, which is why I'm all ears when it comes to ideas.

As someone who runs 12 accounts and has 29 eveclonemaker clones for various profiles and settings, I would do unimaginable things to anyone who allows me to pick settings upon login. Especially if that also means resolutions, with 5 monitors, the majority of my clones are for this pilot on this screen etc....that way I don't have to redo my UI for each screen. It is MUCH easier to just logout and login with a whole different client set up for the new resolution and new monitor.

Right now, each client keeps it's own specific set of settings, if you look at warcraft for instance, it has a set of settings based on an account. That is great for a game that allows free move of the client screen a scalable UI. 2 things EvE doesn't have (At least in the Mac version)

As far as for why people have multiple accounts......well for one thing...flying coffins....

Someone teased us for a month or so, when a pilot in space could apply to a corp, now that isn't possible, so say you have 2 Titans and 2 SC. That is in reality 8 accounts as each one has to have a holder to allow the main to go to a station to upgrade clone, apply to corps etc.

Plus you need capital support, carriers and dreads, then a few subcap and scout pilots, then don't forget every account needs a cyno with a cloak etc...after a while it just adds up :)

Downloaded too, did not run into any issues so far.

Might also add a feature request as soon as i have played with it a bit.

Which version of Mac OS?

I have no trouble on 10.7.x, have trouble on 10.8.2.

I'm stalled at the moment, having lost my enthusiasm for the game due to EVE running at about 4fps (tops) on my current machines. Public holiday tomorrow though, I'll see if I can take a break during my efforts to save the Citadel Council worlds from the Reavers for long enough to sort out this problem I'm having.

I have one question about this awesome new development work (pandering? yes!) is the browser that's in the test launcher intended to replace the current Mac browser in game (please yes!) or is it just intended to work within the launcher? I ask since this weekend I had multiple crashes that I'm positive are all related to the in game browser which can't even show half the links people link in fleet anyway.

It's purely intended for the EVE Launcher, and not as a replacement for the ingame browser.

Based on opening the window here are my comments:

1) the window opens with scroll bars, but no way to resize the window. This is against Apple's UI guidelines.
2) the white boxes in the corner are half on and half off the screen because of (1), again this is against Apple's UI guidelines
3) the font size in the drop down EVE Universe menu opens too small to be readable on my screen, pixelating
4) The one Universe menu opens with two columns and a lot of blank space at the bottom of the first column - this indicates to the user that the second column is a different kind of content - is that what you wanted it to do
5) Without scrolling the window (1) - "The Sandbox" menu opens with the 3rd column half off the screen - this means users will have to either scroll over before opening or have to close, scroll and reopen.
6) buttons all properly highlight and show clickable space - cursor changes correctly
7) 4 balls at the bottom of the main graphic show click-ability correctly and move the screen correctly
8) Language changes happen correctly - and the fonts display correctly - save (3) above

Thank you for your feedback, however I have to point out that the points relating to the website content aren't really of a concern to me at this stage. As I say in the opening post:
Quote:
The provided builds point to the main http://www.eveonline.com website. The site contains some HTML5 and WebGL elements which might cause problems.

I chose that site simply because I imagined it was a site people would be familiar enough with to be able to know when something was broken, sidestepping having to create and host a site just for this beta test. As such, since the website isn't designed with the smaller EVE Launcher screen size in mind, it exceeds the size of the frame.

That said, it's good to know that the elements rendered correctly, so thank you for your help!

Looks great, can't wait for new features to be added

Settings:
The check box to "Upload error and logs to CCP" under the launcher setting
The check box to "Upload crashes automatically" under game client settings

Are these the same, different.? If you want me to participate, I need to know a bit more about what is going to be uploaded.

The 'upload error and logs to CCP' one is the same as the one that is in the EVE Launcher currently; it's logging that the Launcher itself does. The 'upload crashes automatically' one is the crashes option that is in the EVE game client currently, it's just moved into the EVE Launcher.

For anyone else following this thread, I'm hoping to get another new build up this week, that will include a few architectural changes (versioning schema and code signing) and a few bug fixes.

I have the same issue using Archive Utility.app 10.8 (the default OS X archive extractor), though 7zX 1.7.1 and UnZip "5.52 of 28 February 2005" uncompression each give me a valid EvE Online.app.
Quote:
$ md5 EVE\ Online-1.504.macosx-10_3-fat.zip
MD5 (EVE Online-1.504.macosx-10_3-fat.zip) = 0c2a901f240f82ebf51ffe0af5bf6086

Downloaded via Google Chrome 24.0.1312.57 on OS X 10.8.2 on MBP 6,2.

When I try to right-click -> Open, I get the following error:
Quote:
“EVE Online.app” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.

Google Chrome.app downloaded this file today at 1:44 PM from cdn1.eveonline.com.

I do have McAfee Security v1.2.0 (1444) installed and running. I did try extracting with Archive Utility.app multiple times, including after 7zX successfully uncompressed, but still a corrupt EvE Online.app.

`diff` doesn't see any differences in the extracted EvE Online.app folders:
$ diff -Naur EVE\ Online-Archive-Utility.app EVE\ Online-7zX.app
$

All of the uncompressed files are identical:
$ find EVE\ Online-7zX.app -print0 -type f | xargs -0 md5 | sort -u | sed 's:^.*.app/::' > 7zX.md5
$ find EVE\ Online-Archive-Utility.app -print0 -type f | xargs -0 md5 | sort -u | sed 's:^.*.app/::' > Archive.Utility.md5
$ diff -Naur Archive.Utility.md5 7zX.md5
$
$ md5 *.md5
MD5 (7zX.md5) = 1b28a7134d07f5b1a320335b90871831
MD5 (Archive.Utility.md5) = 1b28a7134d07f5b1a320335b90871831

The directories extracted by Archive Utility also match:
$ find EVE\ Online-Archive-Utility.app -type d | sed 's:^.*.app/::' | sort -u > Archive.Utility.dlist
$ find EVE\ Online-7zX.app -type d | sed 's:^.*.app/::' | sort -u > 7zX.dlist

Looking through Apple's documentation this appears due to GateKeeper: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5290

Does CCP (or you) have a Developer ID to sign the next version with to see if that fixes it? It's weird that only some uncompression (really, only the default OS X unarchiver: Archive Utility) causes this corruption, even though I can find no difference between the extracted directories or files between the "corrupt" and non-corrupt EvE Online.app.
