Would it be against the rules / EULA to find out in what resource file the graphics are hiding in and turning them into
something more .... transparent?

I'm certain it would as modifying the client is against the EULA. Most likely you'd have to disassemble and extract the resource files then change the files and reassemble them which is completely against the EULA.

I don't mind the clouds but please let me mine them. We have plenty of asteroids in missions why not gas... with all the clouds this only makes sense.

  - remove the cloaked from local; free intel is the real problem, not  "afk" cloaking -

I would prefer something like this.

AFK Cloaking? An afk cloaker has never ganked me. In fact a cloaker at his keybourd has never ganked me either.

My computer has no trouble with clouds and I still hate them.

Important combat UI is invisible on the white background of the clouds.

Protip: 100M ISK per hour is about $3US an hour.

+1 to either a toggle that hides non-harvestable gas clouds, or to a dramatic re-work of cloud effects with performance in mind.

Due to entirely unrelated issues, I recently had to switch from a Radeon HD6950 to a HD6570. I now can't have clouds in my FOV without my framerate dropping to ~10FPS. (Previously, my framerate never dropped appreciably below 60 FPS.)

I know that creating a reasonably fast 3D renderer is actually really tricky, so I can totally sympathize when performance regressions happen. Perhaps you guys could have a couple of medium-to-low-end test machines in the office to be alerted to these sorts of issues really early on? :)

This has also been bugging me. I've got no problem with graphics whatsoever until I fly into a cloud and everything gets choppy, even on low settings. Not to mention the UI is sometimes invisible on its background. While I can zoom out, this is still almost game-breaking and certainly very annoying. I searched for a way to turn it off in the menus but to no avail. Please get rid of this effect or let us turn it on/off.

It wouldnt be such an issue...

If you know, such a large part of the playerbase wasnt directly effected by these damn clouds. If it isnt the massive drop in FPS from them simply being on your screen, its the fact that you cannot even tell whats going on many times because you are completely blinded by... Clouds.

At this point, you guys gotta man up (whoever is keeping these worthless objects in game) and accept the fact that while it may add a tiny amount of flavor, it reduces the enjoyment of many people simply because of how badly it effects them. That is not a trade off you guys should be willing to make to keep a few replaceable employees happy.

Clouds still suck d***s! Next time Im facing a mission where I expect a massive FPS drop, I record it and send it as petition. Hopefully that will gets CCPs attention.

I support this idea. The only thing that slows down my Machine are those clouds in the Mission pockets.
I don't want CCP to completely remove them (some people might have a liking in those clouds and probably Super-Computers that can handle them just fine), but an -OPTION- to toggle them on/off would be really perfect.

This OPTION would be win/win for everyone.
So please CCP, pay attention to this, since it obviousely is an issue that many of us Capsuleers have.

+1 for the option.

A counter point I could see is something like in counterstrike or call of duty - where turning off smoke makes you see through it (negating its existance). However, your overview as well as an actual icon on screen gives you the information you need anyway, BUT! A cloud could shroud what type of weapons the enemy ship has, if only for a few moments. That reason would truly be a rarity though since most cloud parties are in mission pockets.

Finally... a problem which actually needs to be fixed in F&I!!!

There have been a few posts by CCP regarding this issue but they've not actually fixed it. There's no doubt (based on posts by CCP reps) they are aware there is a problem. Hopefully they will fix a true problem before spending vasts amounts of time on issues which aren't a problem with a fix which makes things worse.

Signed.
While I haven't seen a noticeable drop in framerates yet (i7 920, gtx 660ti), I usually only run 1 toon, sometimes two. I don't have experience with hi sec anoms, but I live in W-space. There are plenty of sites across the different classes where you warp in and the immediate response on coms is OH GOD MY EYES...IT BURNS!!!
The brightness on the white/blue/purple clouds is expecially intense, and needs to be reworked, tossed, or dimmed signifigantly. It's not fun to be running sites, warp in, and have some dumb-a$$ blue-white nebula trigger a migraine. It shouldn't be painful. Zooming all the way out is the best option i've come up with so far to deal with it in real-time.

Signed as well.

The fact that they make most text invisible should be enough of a problem, but the FPS drop I experience makes these super annoying.
