I started playing Eve in may 2003 because I was waiting for Star Wars Galaxies to be released, randomly heard about Eve on some website and thought I would try Eve out first.

Never bothered with SWG after all.

I used to be a hardcore WoW raider back in the day. But with each content patch and expansion came gear wipes. I got sick of the never ending treadmill and left.

^ this.

I simply removed the carrot from the "carrot and stick" mentality- in EVE there really *is* no carrot. Just whatever you want to do, whenever you wish to do it. And the number one rule to remember I've learned is "action = consequence" for better or worse.

TL;DR If you didn't read the entire post perhaps you're probably ADHD. (seek help)

I filled in the survey but will repeat my answer here:

-Science Fiction setting
-Science Fiction setting
-Science Fiction setting
-
-
-
-RL friends already playing EvE and asking me to join them

Mind you, that was why I started playing EvE. The reasons I stayed would generate a list that would be so long, it would probably break the forum rules. Now we don't want that do we?...Blink

Did I mention the Science Fiction setting? Yeah, that too....Big smile

Random browsing, saw sci-fi spaceships game. Started trial. Flew my noobship to an asteroid belt in Tama, died to a Taranis while cluelessly watching a Retriever mine (he died too). Subbed.

"Why did you start playing EVE?"

To chat with you in this forum and yet not answer the question.

So it must have been the sandbox principle.

The first time i had heard of the game i had just believed it to be another fantasy game and associated it with Everquest just by name's sake.

Then a buddy on WoT told me about it truthfully. Even before i started playing i knew i would be hooked. A sandbox game full of treachery and deceit based on a sci-fi sim in space with a full blown player based market surrounded by PvP in the form of guns and money just made me wanna cry from happiness (then my manhood took over, chose Gallente due to its backstory of being free, and... started... mining.... for a week then started trying to kill all the things!) Haven't been playing too long, but I love Eve. I needed something different from the usual boring MMO's that I've always played. Plus I love the sci-fi setting, it's a beautiful world.

I found the "Eve Never Fades" video and was intrigued enough to try the game.

I did a couple trials worth of game time in 2005 and then life happened.

In 2007, I was cleaning out my email and came across the confirmation email for this account. I decided to give it another go and subscribed that day. I've been playing ever since.

1) survey has different question: why did you try EVE?
1.1) because I've tried literally every MMO game back when there were just handful of them unlike today.

2) I've started to play EVE because
2.1) I wanted sci-fi game
2.2.) I wanted sandbox
2.3) tutorials were improved to make the game actually comprehensive to a person with 130 IQ (finally 6 years after release after like 5 trial attempts).

Read a good review on a pc magazine way back in 2005, was really hard to get into specially since it was my first mmo, I like the space genre and the open world/sandbox that make EVE a great game.

For me it was the Rooks and kings video's. Those are so great to watch!

Also why wouldn't you want to play Internet Space Ships?

Play EvE how you want to play it and do not let others dictate how you play. Evolve your playstyle to protect yourself from others! Even in "PVE", "PVP" is there, lurking in the shadows.
