So Im a beginner explorer, aiming for some lucrative PVE. What's the most rewarding thing to do (guess it's combat sites but which ones?).

I have tons of questions so here they are:

I'd like some info on 1-10/10 complex, sleeper sites, sanctums (are there more?). What I'd like to know is where do I find them? how hard are they? How much can I expect in loot? Can they be soloed?

Ive been reading some on plexes. How do you get to them in those expensive ships in a safe manner? I can fly a Tengu and a Proteus which seem to be the best way to get to where I want. But I cant refit my t3 in null (is there safe places to refit in null?)

As it stands I have no real connections in null, is that a nessecity?

Also can I actually solo a 10/10 in a tengu or proteus?

In your case...

It will be most profitable to practice in high sec. Doing simple things. When you have 3 months done, you can switch to something more challenging and demanding.

Best simple PVE choice would be ISHTAR heavy assault cruiser. It is cheap, reliable and can clean out most of the sites. Drake can well be a substitute for cheap and reliable.

If you can access 0.0 space without getting killed, you can run anomalies there. They are simple repetitive and provide steady source of ISK. No matter what, various parties in 0.0 space will desire your elimination and will persist hunting you down. You can still break into NULL space like a ninja, sneakily or through a backdoor wormhole. Or you can join a certain NULL party and become part of them, gaining allies and enemies at the same time.

Further exploration is more like gambling, odds and risks, your ship and clone is at stake and rewards vary greatly. If you know your business, you can come on top with profit. If you just started, you may struggle to break even on the assets you invested. Worse, you can be dead.

Pirates, rival explorers and even NPCs will trial you with death.

Wormholes are a major business, you do not run them solo. You work as a team, but the CEO may rip you off. It is not exactly safe or profitable, especially if you don't get your cut.

Ok, anomalies are piece of cake. But you gotta be in null space. 60-100 mill hour

Plexes - exciting, 0-300 mill per day. Very varied.

Wormholes. It is a long way before your input becomes real liquid ISK and hits your wallet.

This post sums up why the 'best' work with DCM inc.

WARP DRIVE makes eve boring

really - add warping align time 300% on gun aggression and eve becomes great again

Sleepers live in wormholes. They really have their own dynamic outside of the usual exploration content and are probably best learned by lurking over on the wormhole forum. Supply chains are a challenge and the risk is high but the rewards can be great -- in groups. If you were looking for solo content you'd best look elsewhere.

1-4/10s spawn in high sec, 4-6/10 in low, and 6-10/10 in null. This is pretty much your bread and butter as an explorer. This is where deadspace items come from (frigate-sized modules from 1-3, cruiser from 4-6, and BS from 7-10). Honestly, any sec band can be profitable and they each provide their own challenges (yes, even high, what with the level of competition and speed running).

Sanctums (and havens, and hubs, and ports, etc) are generally called anomalies. They pop up scan without probes and have no gates. Dangerous, as anyone can pop into one without warning. Kind of boring; really just glorified belt ratting. Technically they can have commander spawns or can escalated to rated DED sites but it's rare.

So what can you solo? For the most part, anything up to a 7/10 is pretty workable. After that you need to look at what rats you're talking about and devise pretty specific counter-fits. But don't assume that higher DED rating automatically means higher rewards; often this is not the case. The "best" loot often ends up dropping from 6/10s.

Start slow man, and start solo. As a high sec explorer you will be limited to 1/1-1/4, in other words you will need frig, cruiser and BC. A ship for mag/rad sites is optional, they are time consuming but profitable sometimes. BC can be fitted to do them all, as they are not size restricted. A side note: all your exploration ships must have salvager/salvage drone to salvage commanders. Trust me< T2 salvage rocks. Do all anomalies you encounter, sure they usually just 5 minute waste but they do have a commander sometimes. Yesterday i pulled out 3 faction modules and 1 BPC from a highsec den commander Lol

Also pay a visit to C1 WH and see for yourself how it goes. When you will be able to fly BS/T2/T3 good it is time to move to low sec for 5/10 and 6/10 (7-10 - use T2/T3 or suffer) and clear C2 WHs. Personally i use BS for that cause i dont care if somebody blows me up, T1 hulls are cheap.

P.S. Do not attept to go in WH without a scan probe launcher. Also POSing WH is entirely optional.

Great info. Ty guys. Like I said I can already fly T3s but the plan was to take it slow all along. But having a good picture of what I can work towards is important. No need to get into something that just dont bring the ISK in the end.

Guess Ill hit Hsec in my Hurricane again, lovely :D

If you can fly and afford a T3 you might as well use one even if you're staying in high sec. Hell, especially if you're staying in high sec as you really have to mess up to lose one there. You won't get in to 1 or 2/10s, but you can do 3/10s (which you couldn't in the Hurricane). Depending on your price range something like this might work:

[Tengu, exploration combined highsec]
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II
Ballistic Control System II

Republic Fleet 10MN Afterburner
Gistum C-Type Medium Shield Booster
Shield Boost Amplifier II
Codebreaker I
Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
Pithum C-Type EM Ward Amplifier

Sisters Expanded Probe Launcher, Sisters Core Scanner Probe I
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile

Medium Warhead Rigor Catalyst I
Medium Warhead Rigor Catalyst I
Medium Warhead Rigor Catalyst I

Tengu Defensive - Adaptive Shielding
Tengu Electronics - Emergent Locus Analyzer
Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir
Tengu Offensive - Accelerated Ejection Bay
Tengu Propulsion - Fuel Catalyst

Having said that, I don't do high sec. Someone else might be able to suggest something better.

Isk wont be a problem. And maybe u are right. For some reason Ive been reluctant to use T3 in high because of ganks(+ I feel there are better ships for lvl 4s) but I guess I can aswell do that now.

How about lvl 5s? Are they soloable? Are they resonably safe? Payout?

You could start slow or you could go all in. That's how I did it.

I did loose 2 Tengus in the process to anom rats but that was just me being greedy. My other ship was a CNR. Tengu tanked and killed BC's and bellow while CNR took care of the BS's.

Ofc the exact setup I used might not work nowadays with the ewar rat agro mechanic. Anyway the CNR was full gank with 2 TP's, 100mwd and SEBO's in rest of mids, lows was 1 inertia stabilizer and rest BCU's, high had a cloak. Used to scout with the tengu each time I had to switch systems while CNR promptly followed with the MWD+cloack trick. Also I cloaked the CNR each time a new wave spawned to avoid agro. Both ship orbited a point in the anom with the tengu keeping a tighter orbit. Whenever some neut entered system I cloaked the CNR and warp the tengu to a safe spot and cloak it also.

Learn how to travel safe in 00 and you should be fine. There are lots of unknowns in your situation but learning by doing will get you there.
