The entire sound update that came with Retribution is absolutely horrible. I've been playing since RMR, and this is the first time I've had to turn down the master volume to 0.

The alarms, the "whoosh" warp, the steel door sound when you blow up a ship... not to mention the very underwhelming explosions...

And don't get me started on the jumpgate sound. Sounds like a wizard casting a spell at every other gate.

Horrible.

This +1, nicely put.

The whole sound 'update', with the exception of some turret sounds that could pass as ok, seems like a bad joke. For the first time, having sounds turned off.

It still means I want my jukebox back....

Can't we have both? Ambient music based in location with us having the power of skipping to the next track when we don't like? Bear

I've always played eve with some of the sound on--usually so I can hear my sweet missiles fire. But since retribution I've had to shut the sound off permanently, because of the freaking steel door that slams shut whenever the tinniest thing pops. In RVB frig swarms it is especially bad, like Odin himself is making steel popcorn. Please get rid of this awful noise.

Thank you very much Team Klang <3

Eve sounds much better than before. I've always had the sounds on, but use an external music player so jukebox going away does not bother me personally.

New sounds help with multiboxing even more than they used. Sound clues tell me what's happening on another client even without looking, now there's more of them and I really like it :)

Timer ending- ticking is perhaps the best example of good sound design, it's immediately recognizable and super intuitive and gives information without needing to look.

Also much love for the new hybrid sounds, they are very fitting and enjoyable!

Issues:

- low capacitor warning is too similar to shield/armor warnings, I wish it could be less shocking
- explosions don't seem to scale properly depending on the distance, and the sound itself is somehow bit off
- could there be sounds for new target broadcasts? We don't need to hear every "need armor" bcast, but new primary/secondary sound might be useful since the visual clues are very small.

CCP, the players have spoken. Most of us who actually play with the sound on, a minority in this game, want you to have jukebox, and really don't care about this update.

Great changes but I like the warp bang and that has gone away, there is like a whisper of air sound and that all. The bang was satisfaction in sound.

Maintaining an mp3 player inside EVE, while there are much better media players out there doesn‘t make much sense to us. Keep in mind that all code in EVE needs to be maintained. UIs are upgraded, codecs need upgrading, code is refactored, defects need to be resolved. By removing redundant pieces of code from our codebase, we free up engineering time to maintain, iterate and develop other features which are more important and core to the spaceship game EVE.
The resources for maintaining the Jukebox code were not wasted, because it's worthwhile to shuffle through custom playlists without having to alt-tab out of the game. Many players use an out-of-game browser on a second monitor to surf the web, does that mean we should all lose the functionality of an IGB???

Yes, count me as another one saying this is the wrong move. I had been thoroughly enjoying Valkanisar Gogiko's 'Beyond the Home World' tracks right up until the Jukebox was removed.

Hey team Klang,

When will you be removing that annoying "bang" that happens every time you destroy a ship or jettison a can?

The thing sounds like a door slamming and i can't takes it no mores! Evil

Listening to one of the in-game tracks, makes me want to ask if inspiration was found in this.

Specifically the piano...

no no, I love this sound

Actually as opposed to everyone else I really like the sound update. the variations on sounds was a great idea, the "slip" into warp is much better than the "boom" the gates sounds great. I like it.

I've always had sound on, and now I love it even more. the game feels a little more relaxed and organic.

How can we choose between the box or the cloud if CCP doesn't provide us with proper details?

ArrowHow much time did it took to maintain the jukebox?
ArrowHow many dev's where involved in maintaining the jukebox?

If we would know thát, only then we could make a proper judgement what would be better for the game.

But [tinfoilhaton] you omitted that because it doesn't differ thát much does it? [/tinfoilhat]

I can somewhat see some of the merits in the rationale claimed for no longer wanting to maintain the jukebox in the form it existed before, so, ok then, no more of the complex jukebox, I get it, them's the breaks.
But at least give us back TWO of the (previously many more) functions that existed in the old jukebox :
- "PAUSE//resume"
and
- "NEXT track".

You can keep everything else exactly the same it is right now as far as I am concerned.
Keep the separate ambiental playlists per system sec level, keep whatever the heck you might possibly like to keep, just let me quickly pause the music for a while when I want to and just as quickly resume it, and let me skip the current track if it annoys me for some reason.
Heck, feel free to record usage data for those two buttons so you can get a better idea of what people like or don't like, or when they want to be less bothered by sound, etc.

That's all I really desire, those two buttons, not a complete jukebox.
PAUSE and NEXT, nothing more, nothing less.
Is that really too much to ask ?
