Different pace of major trading hubs

Hello fellow capsuleers!

I have a small question about setting up manufacturing and station trading in another hub than Jita, say Rens or Amarr.
As I don't have first-hand experience with another hub than Jita, I'm wondering how big the difference is.

Are manufacturing slots still occupied in the nearest 2+ jumps systems?

Will it take forever to sell my goods?

Is station trading just the same as in constant updating of market orders?

Is it as easy to get ahold of large quantities of minerals?

No need to answer all questions, I just put them out there to get a general idea about the situation.

Thanks!

I'm sure someone else will come out with more exact numbers, but i've found from my own dealings, that jita is about twice as busy as amarr and 4 times as busy as dodixie. different goods of course will move at different rates, but for just overall volume of goods being moved, that's what it seemed like to me.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

Amarr is noticeably quieter than Jita. Local has on average around 600 people at any time, compared to Jita's 1800 or so (don't pin me on these numbers, rough numbers from memory).
You can get away with updating your orders only a few times a day in Amarr and still make good profit.
How long it takes to sell goods depends on the goods and how much you babysit it, obviously.
I found a system very near to Amarr that had a lot of free manufacturing slots, I won't give out the name as I made my home there myself but suffice to say, the systems are there.
Large quantities of minerals, depends how large I suppose. I don't recall there being a shortage, FWIW.

Amarr is where I taught myself effective stationtrading, and I turned my 100 mil into 500-ish in about a week of playtime.
YMMV obviously, but it worked for me.

Thanks to you both. And of course, don't spoil your systems. Wouldn't be any fun for me that way would it now? :)

The Element43 website seems to offer some current information on how many active orders pass through the various trade hubs.

Beyond that, about the only information I can offer is that Amarr has friendly Local chat.

As others have said, Jita is definitely the most populated, but Amarr is also quite active. I would recommend Amarr for station trading, but really any of the top 5-7 on the list posted by Charlepetit will be good. The difference is noticeable among each trade hub, proportional to the number of active orders; although, the lower the population, the less frequently you need to update your orders at the cost of a smaller potential profit.

Much less so for everything except Jita; it is quite congested for the 4-5 jump "radius" around Jita. You can find out the available manufacturing slots in-game via Neocom -> "Science & Industry" -> "Installations" tab. Then set the "Activity" drop-down to "Manufacturing," and the "Range" drop-down to "Current Region." Sorting this list by "Jumps" will let you easily click on the systems nearby to see how many slots are available. The same goes for copying, material research, etc.

Unforetunately, this depends on the item you want to sell and how much time you want to devote to updating the order. For example, a Damage Control II will sell quite fast, but you probably will want to split your sell order into a few stacks, modifying one at a time when someone 0.01-ups you.

I have only been station trading now for a few months, so other veterans have much more experience than I do on this matter. From my nascent view, the basics of station trading does consist of just modifying orders and placing new buy/sell orders. After a while, you start to improve your overall profit using a combination of small psychological tricks and larger scale market manipulations. Again, others can probably speak more about this than I can.

Yes. Trade hubs are great for this, especially if you obtain them via buy orders; however, you will probably end up doing hauling of some sort.

As always, EVE University pops in with great information. :)

I've been scouting Amarr, Dodixie, Rens and Hek today looking for nearby manufacturing/invention slots. As well as looking at that Element43 table that was linked a couple replies up this thread. I've started to move my assets to a new location and I'll try to do some manufacturing there for a change. It's always nice to have a new nebulae to look at as well! :)

Thanks!
