Trade Apprenticeship

I'm a moderately successful trader, and have my own trading style. I generally manage 2-3K market orders but with the recent changes in Eve I have unsubbed most of my accounts. I see a number of market opportunities that I am not motivated to take advantage of myself.

Thus the plan for apprenticeship:

1. New players (within 6 weeks of starting Eve) may apply.

2. Apprentices will need to join Games Inc. (my corp) for the duration of the apprenticeship. Corp members are free to do their own trade (and other) activities, and may move on whenever they feel the need. The corp has a no-stress policy.

3. I will provide the items to sell, and guide on how to price them and where to sell them.

4. The apprentice will receive 10% of the money that comes in from the sale of the items. This percentage will increase by 1% a month to a maximum of 25%.

The 25% mark is unlikely to be achieved, as the apprentices should learn all the (boring) lessons in a month or two and should be able to do it better on their own (should they so desire).

Not sure how well this will work, and not sure whether anyone will be interested, but the offer is there to be availed.

Any colour you like.

6 weeks is not a strict rule- but the idea is to help new players. Most players have found a direction within 2 or 3 months and can use their basic Eve knowledge and common sense to do reasonably well in trade.

the first thing your apprentice will hopefully teach you is to make clear distinctions between sales/revenue and profit.

I might be interested, just started playing a few days ago. Went through the starter missions and discovered I'm more interested in industry and trade stuff rather than combat.

How many hours/week would be required for somebody to get involved? Is there a particular system/region you want us to be in for this?

Looking forward to that day.

There is no hourly/weekly requirement. You can spend as much time as you like on this or as little as you like. Remember that the corp has a no-stress policy. Depending on the number of market orders you are willing to devote to this activity- it should take you a few hours to set up the initial market orders. My trade style does not require regular updating of the orders, thus there is little maintenance. Gives you a lot of time to do other stuff in Eve.

Most of the initial apprenticeship will be in Caldari space: Forge, Lonetrek, Domain. It is okay if you are from another region, as I should still be able to guide you, though you will need to do some additional hauling i.e. transport of sale goods. Would be best to learn the ropes here and repeat elsewhere (less competition for each other in the long term).

OK. I'll try and get into contact with you in the next few days. I don't have any trading skills up on this character, I'll at least get Trade into the queue but I'm trying to get Gallente Industrial up right now. I'll be in contact shortly :)

I don't plan on being online much until Monday, so it might not be till then that I bump you.

I'm rather new to EVE (3 months) and I've recently started getting into trading with a bestower. Would you be interested in sharing your expertise with me?

I would also be interested in this though my char is 4 months old atm.

I have been trading a while in the regions you specified but I would like to learn the finer points.

Despite my posting prowess I really am terrible at this game

This is an awesome Idea! I was very interested in trading at first but sort of just abandoned it. Sadly I am in a Corporation now that I really enjoy. But it is super to see someone who will help people hands on, that is the most fun way to learn I think. You get to do things and make new friends at the same time. I might mail you anyway to ask a few things about trading so brace yourself if that happens.

The best advantage of trading that I see right now is the ability to ship spin around a pretty Ferox while doing station trading. If only you could get one to pull a Badger you would be in some serious fun business!

Play safe, Kietay~

What is the actual profit to be expected by the apprentices?

isn't that too vague a question? those kinda thing really depends on the amount of orders, level of activity, which portion OP decides to let them handle, etc etc etc

Thank you Lexa, Georgina, Radelix and Tyrhineld for you interest in this idea. Kietay, thank you for the appreciation. You are welcome to mail me. I have limited knowledge, but it is at your disposal.

To be honest I would was hoping to start with one apprentice, possibly two. I may not be able to do justice to a larger number. My instinct would be to let select the youngest player, but at the end of the day it is the motivation to try something different (I do not do conventional station trading) that matters.

Lexa, you're the newest player and are welcome to apply to the corp at your convenience.

It would be useful to have Retail trained to IV and Broker Relations and Accounting both to at least III. The ability to use an industrial will be useful, though you could even get started in a frigate. You could also consider Astronautic Rigging (Level I) so you can rig the ships yourself for larger cargo capacity. To start with, though, all you need is some available market orders (Trade and Retail).

I have limited expertise but it is there to be shared. Look forward to you applying to the corp.

Thank you for your interest. I'd like to give the newer players a chance first Radelix. If you would like to join the corp, you are still welcome to apply. This may give us an opportunity work together and discuss trade, though I am not as knowledgeable and obsessive as some of the more serious traders, and you may already have a style/system which is better than mine.

The expected profit will hopefully be above 10% :) I will give advice on how to price different items (this will hopefully ensure that I do not lose money), but the apprentice will decide the final figure, thus partly controlling their income. Most useful will be to have a large number of orders, facilitating experimentation.

You've got the skills all there, and the Industrial V may come in very useful.

With the number of people interested, I may need to reconsider my initial plans and cater for more apprentices. You might as well apply, while I re-organize to let more corp members use the system.

Edit: Have reorganized the system for 3 apprentices, and can expand to 5 if necessary.

I think you may have hit on the subconscious motivation for this venture. Should not have seen those movies repeatedly.

Thank you for your wishes. I have one active apprentice, and things appear to be moving smoothly. Much better than I expected.

This probably indicates imminent disaster :)

An update on the progress.

I have 4 trade apprentices now. The first apprentice joined on 24th Oct. with 33 market orders and Broker relations at III. In the last week he has made 150m for the corp (15m apprentice stipend paid), and working on Wholesale and Accounting.

One other apprentice is also active and trading for the last 2 days. I have high hopes for him. The other 2 apprentices are in the process of getting started.

I am overall very pleased with the response and the performance of the apprentices. We seem to be getting along well, and I hope this continues :)
