In defence of AFK mining

who mines in anything but a retriever these days?

let's take a look at a mackinaw, 5% yield bonus at exhumer V, i'm not going to give up a 9% mlu bonus for a 5% yield bonus in a ship worth nearly 10x as much.

it's honestly cheaper to just replace a retriever than fly a more expensive ship that mines less. because let's face it; if you want to gank me, you will. no amount of tank is going to change that is it?

The Mack still gets better yield than the Retty at full skills. I am not sure what you are on about unless you don't have exhumers skilled.

But noone would tank a retriever since the price is low. The mack without tanking it is a little bit like asking to be blown up...

I've been playing Eve for a bit now and I do quite a bit of mining, asteroids not ice.
As my current play-style is more casual due to RL, I have had to modify how I mine.

I NEVER AFK mine. My Exhumers are always tanked and if and when I need to step away, I either dock or POS up.
If you chose to actually go AFK, well ... you pay your money and you take your chances.

The first rule of Eve I learned was "don't undock in something you can't afford to lose."

Play how you like, it's your time but, if you get popped while AFK ... well, that's Eve.

No understanding whatsoever, I mean, I've only killed about 50 hulks in highsec this month, so I certainly know very little about the issues facing the modern, untanked hulk pilot (who's actually flying a retriever, because *nobody* flies anything but retrievers anymore.. the 26 Mackinaws I saw in a system the other day were likely an overview bug.

Please place an excessively large bounty on my head, I am unworthy of this game and need to be griefed into submission, obviously. That should help.

that a damage control II just lowers your isk/hour ratio and nothing more.
