I've thought about this in the past as well. Maybe give rogue drone autonomy. A rise of the machines type expansion but they should rely on numbers, not 99% resist walls.

Balance all the mess of ship we already have then maybe think about adding more layers.

Just to give you an idea of the scope of what you're asking, a fifth race would mean…

· A fifth damage type that requires new modules and skills and that needs to be balanced in with the four existing ones.
· A fifth sensor type that requires new ECM and ECCM modules and skills, and be properly placed in the sliding scale of ECM susceptibility of the existing races.
· A sixth (and maybe seventh) weapon system, with its entire tree of skills and variety of modules (somewhere in the region of 80 each) that need to be balanced against existing ships and systems.
· Two more ewar types and their corresponding support and counter-modules, which again need to be balanced against what already exists.
· A new command bonus category and four specific stats to provide boosts to.
· At least a dozen new drones to match the new damage and ewar types.
· Preferably, at least two more pirate factions and all the assets (and space) required.
· Something along the lines of 1,200 new systems that need to be slotted into the map.
· Some 60 new ships, which again need to be properly balanced, and yet provide variety to not just be more of the same.

· Oh, and a fifth primary colour for the backgrounds and ship skin hues. P

…and compared to simply making what we have work, the prospect of making that kind of effort even harder (and putting pretty much everything else on hold for a year or two) doesn't feel all that enticing to me.

Personally I think that CCP missed out on something amazing with the Jove, and that was Incursions.

Imagine that the Jove awake from there sleep, and all they see is factions fighting, factions that are far beneath them, so decide to wipe them out with there more advanced spaceships.

From Incursions we gain Jovian technology, which in turn creates Tech 3 items.

Tech 3 items however are unpredictable, and have random stats, so you could for example, be able to use Jovian tech to create a shield hardener, thats far better than T2, but has double the fitting requirements, or even the same stats as T2, but alot less, everything stats wise, completely random.

Now that, would make some pretty impressive industrial boom, create incursions everyone wants to do, even those in 0.0, and would bring the Jove into the game in a way thats beleiveable.

Sooooo....

I guess "space dwarves", and "wormhole hobbits", with massive "industrial" bonuses for boosting Null Sec economic infrastructure are definitely "right out" ?

Pandas are the "in" thing right now, best to stick with what will draw in more subscribers.

CCP has no sense of humour.

I don't race much these days, but it only makes sense to have five. Else there would be matches ending in ties all the time. Where's the fun in that?

I'm not sure what you are asking for. There are twelve races.... Civire, Deteis, Achura, Intaki, Gallente, Jin-Mei, True Amarr, Ni-kunni, Khanid, Brutor, Sebiestor, Vherokior. Did you want more than that?

(Yes, I know they are called bloodlines, but thy are obviously races)

I too would have to say no..
I`ve played this game for a year now only to half ****** beeing able to fly a couple of select few ships.. Injecting my engines with my left over alcahol and sparemart parts to keep em floating i`m partially able to do some select few interesting things..

I`d rather see that skill training time went down a bit so that more peeps, with less patience than me keeps on playing;)

Yeah, any "new" race except Jove would be smashed into pieces by the current empires from the role-play view really. And chances that an unknown lurking race suddenly popups up that can meet the technology etc isn't viable I think.

I have certainly never read any of the eve stories but I think I remember during the intro them explaining New Eden was somehow cut off from the original civilization by some wormhole collapsing or something correct? Couldn't it be explainable that a 5th race just somehow figured out how to get to New Eden?

Not saying it is a good idea for the game just a possible entry path to explain a new race.

Would be cool to "Find" ways to normal Sleeper space and run missions for them and earn BPC's for thier ships..

Just saying... Give the mission runners some love back.

Yeah that works lets just make a new area of space so we as capsuleers can run missions for the very race that is trying to experiment on (normal?) humans to find a means to an end in the storyline... Lol

The 4 main races went through a dark age that lasted thousands of years. Any race coming from the other area would be so far ahead of them it would be silly.

The 5th race already exists: Sansha, the various pirate factions, etc..

As for a 5th race with its own weapon systems, ECM, etc., we already have that in pirate ships that require two racial skills to fly. The same multi-racial skill reqs could be applied to pirate modules. For example, an Angel 800 AC that combines aspects of projectiles and hybrids.

Besides, the "true" 5th race is the players. All the meta-gaming, RMT, paid-in-RL-money fleet commanders, 3rd party apps, web hosted data and apps, scandals, forum trolling, etc., make the playing of Eve a game in and of it self.

Pon Farr Memorial: once every 7 years, all the carebears in high-sec must PvP or they will be temp-banned.

I'm all for splitting a mess of factions away to add to the current 4 main races - more pirate type possibilities. Sleeper/Jove should remain mysterious and badass.

e.g. numerous caldari/minmatar or gallente/amarr sub-factions that introduce new ship models, new mods and rig possibilities that seriously modify the bonuses or visual aesthetic of current ships.

Well, i for one like the idea of jumping the shark!

sillyness aside, the only option IS the jovians at this point... and there is no way they are joining us as capsullers.
unless CCP created new lore and an expansion heavily focused on introducing a new race... but i doubt it would taken well.
