I said back on Christmas Eve this is a stealth Hostile Act. Glad others are finally seeing it this way.

I wouldn't consider it distressful. Just extremely annoying for people like me who keep an eye out for that (1) appearing on a tab we leave open somewhere as means to notify us of a new mail, or a topic of interest.

I'd appreciate not having 20 or 30 likes from the same script whenever I glance at it, as that gets in the way of showing me notifications I actually want to receive.

How about a forum setting where we can choose what kind of notifications show up? For example, ignore likes, but still show responses to followed threads, new calendar invites, etc.

I don't mind getting notifications about likes as it signifies which threads have activity in them, a liked post will often have a quoted reply to it or the likes with something to add to it (as opposed to the "notify me of everything" when subscribing). There is a certain value to like notifications.

What these users are doing is by making a mockery of the "likes" system in general, they're degrading the usefulness of the notifications system. We shouldn't have to consider counter-scripting our browsers to filter the notifications spam because bots are pinging like on every post they find.

I turned my notifications off as soon as I reactivated...

Threads that have activity in them get bumped to the first page; I usually just browse the first page rather than waiting for a notification to ding-grats me. I mean there's enough beeping from emails and texting already.

I appreciate the likes, but, shrug, they don't mean much.

I want to see just how many likes I can gather before the new year so Im not going to touch it. Over 1000 so far today.

Party poopers. What?

Edit:
Let me add to this that it wasn't a problem last year, I even added a few mass likes myself back then so why should it be a problem now?

A like system without dislikes is pointless anyway.

Well, at least Internet bots "like" me - and sometimes we are happy to have (and pay for) illusions ...

P.S. Also whoring for more robot likes.

edit: now I understand how some users had +2k likes during couple of days.

This explains how I've received a bunch of random likes on very old or obscure posts over the last day or two from the same people. Mostly Destination Skillqueue and FluffyDice.

On further reflection, likes should cost 100,000 ISK.

You can uncheck the setting in your "Profile settings" then "Notifications". I forgot it was there as well as I have not had to adjust those since the day the 'new' Forums started.

But then you still can't see the legitimate Likes, but oh well.

Because that totally limited the number of random bounties, right?

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

lol.

That like you just got from me on this was real.

I guess we are reduced now to having to inform about that from now on. What?
