If I target an NPC with an energy vampire, will I gain cap from it?
I know that NPC's have infinite cap, but not sure the vampire works on NPC's as it does not player ships.

as far as I know it works, then the NPC's cap dries out... as to my testing long time ago, it does not refill. So you have to find new NPCs to feed on.

This post sums up why the 'best' work with DCM inc.

WARP DRIVE makes eve boring

really - add warping align time 300% on gun aggression and eve becomes great again

In what expansion was this? I've never had any problems having a vamp on the same NPC the whole time.

The vampire does work on player ships, but not as well as before the nerf it got (lets face it it used to be OP). Now it only drains cap to your ships if your cap % is lower than that of the enemy ship.

Ex:
You: 44% cap
Enemy: 40% cap
No cap drained

Ex 2:
You: 32% cap
Enemy: 34% cap
Cap drained

Energy vamps are mostly useful for ships than require cap to maintain tackle and such under neut pressure, or requires cap for their guns and such.

Just to be a bore, it's of little relevance when it comes to "missions and complexes". AFAIK NPCs always have 100% cap. Works fine for me, it seems.

^Yep, I used to use a large vamp on my CNR, and I had the feeling I gained a lot of cap, even if used on a frig.

It will work but you need to switch target for NOS every few cycles as npc kinda "runs out of cap".. Also you cant NOS npc structures. Anyways thats how it worked few years ago when i last flew NOS raven..

Now this sounds something like pvp while were talking about pve.. And i can tell you that CNR for example loves that heavy faction NOS in pve..

As others have said - yes but with a caveat or 2.

The problem is there appears to be 2 different caps on an NPC.

You can't cap-tap an NPC's guns off-line nor it's point, etc. In this respect, it doesn't work the same.

The NPC cap also seems to drain out as you vamp on it so switching targets is needed to keep power flowing to your ship.

I used to have a NOS on my raven many years ago and I remeber this question coming up then, I was told that after 3 cycles you need to switch targets as although the NPC was not drained of cap you no longer got any cap out of it. This sounded about right and I followed this pattern, like I say many years ago. Not sure if it holds ground now.

Yes vamps work on NPCs. It's part of a broken ewar mechanic for rats.
