about the lowsec location of them

how do you mitigate roaming pvp gangs?

-watch local and cloak?
-camp gates with alts?
-joined the prevailing alliance within cyno range?

I would love pvp-free capital ship PVE, but that isn't going to happen

I'll be using two carriers and three battleships, which is substantial but there's always a bigger fish

what do you do about that?

Either you run them in a system controlled by your corp or alliance or you watch gates via scouts. Nobody runs them with a capital alone without intel (at least I hope nobody 's so dumb). Also, most people have probably some help nearby in case **** hits the fan.

thanks,

that pretty much sums up this year-old thread I didn't find until just now https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=48535

I might just run vanguards instead. the future cap pilots are training logi first, for the purpose of supporting the battleships in vanguards

maybe I can find a nice... c5 corp somewhere, when the time comes

it can. Join a big coalition like cfc or hbc and you can do sanctums almost risk free for ever and ever cause they ain't going nowhere.

As someone who has run hundreds of L5s across 2 regions this sums it up pretty quick . . .

1) You don't need fancy ships/capitals to run L5s if you do your research . . .
2) If you don't fly fancy ships/capitals the pirates won't bother hunting you . . .
3) Get to know your locals.

As far as gangs. Deep low sec is mostly free of gate camps . . . the camps tend to be run by locals so see #3.

If you want to bring in Capitals/Faction BSs you've got a different problem on your hands. If you want to Bling it up expect everyone who see's you on Dscan to bring his entire corp to camp/scan for you.

Having any problems since the Retribution patch with aggro swapping or can you still warp in a passive tank followed by logi/dps? My question is directed mainly towards gated missions.

Not today spaghetti.

is that a regular thing? sanctums deep in controlled null?

Sanctums are common enough in null... But with a sov upgrade, they perma-respawn. Finish an anom, warp out, a new one spawns.

Trivial in carrier. 9-10 fighters do quick work of the BS rats. Sentries can take care of the rest. Supers work too, or at least used to and were even faster/better.

All you need is ideally 2 small towers. One to cyno to and the other one to duck into if a neut enters local. One is all you need if you're no paranoid. Don't even need towers in a station system.

I beg to differ, pirates will shoot whatever, whenever they can.. including shuttles...
I am planning to try and run some lvl5's in the near future, just waiting for my carrier to be built, then I will use it mostly for logistics to carry ships. Haven't figured out exactly how to run them with 2 toons yet though.. maybe passive nh's... or RR tengu's.. need to get on to the test server and see what works

Wow, someone actually reads my posts . . .

Its a new makeup, I want to do a bit more testing/optimizing before I recommend something. I was planning on making a real writeup after the holidays when i get more time to play test.

The basics are
Switch to active armor with remote armor reps.

This is made possible by bringing in a single Auguror with 3-4 Large remote Energy transfer Arrays, that will easily overcome the neuts and provide enough cap for all the fleets remote reps (this ship is VERY OVERPOWERED, they can out cap transfer a carrier, but I'll use what CCP has given me.

At the moment I am running
1) Abaddon(Tank Only) goes in first. 7 low slot tank, highs are energy transer and Remore armor reps. Mids are ewar to get more aggro
2) Augror (energy only) goes in next and cap transfers with the abaddon

Note 1 & 2 are flown by characters that don't want their standings blown say they only mount support items

3) Domi (Sentry drone damage only) - gets energy from Augror and mounts full rack of remote armor reps
4) Talos (DPS fit) - By the time he gets in, everything is focused on the remote rep ships.

This is a bit more expensive than my old fleet and is a lot slower to move around. I'll keep playing around and see if I can get a faster fleet, but the target switching is tough.

Since I run in gallente space, I face mainly Amarr/Sansha missions so I keep the armor instead of switching to shields (and getting to use Invuls)

Well since you obviously have far more experience running L5s that I do, I will deffer to you on this . . .

Your plan of action to buy some very expensive ships and then test them out in lowsec is flawless. You'll be fine . . .

NOt planning to use the carrier to run the missions.. it will be for hauling ships around.. so scout cloaky tengu with cov ops cyno.. find a quite area.. cyno in carrier with ships and fits, mission, exlore.. whatever.. cyno loot back closer to hs.. just a thought.. flying around in a carrier costs the same as doing it in a pirate faction BS... so not that expensive

hey so this is anticlimactic, but I've looked at the state of lowsec and my options and decided to experience lvl 5's strictly on Buckingham.

I've had the recent privilege of being allowed in nullsec camp comms, and it was a real eye-opener. the idea of taking anything of value into low, for the extent of a mission is pretty much a super bad idea to me.

aside from training, whether the mission benefits are on Tranquility or Buckingham is not very important to me.

thank you for the replies.
