Im on my 3rd day of a 21 day trial. I'm enjoying the game so far. Just working on career mission's when im actively playing and mining in high sec with a venture when i'm half AFK to make bit of ISK.

I am still not sure about subbing for this game yet, as i may be enjoying it so far. But soon i will want to get out and do PVP, explore etc

Any tips on how to make the most out of the trial so i can make a informed choice whether to go P2P or not

Well the biggest tip.

Don't mine AFK....

Mining is a profession if you like it and quite a good stable one.
But doing stuff AFK means you won't learn things about the game, you won't get the feeling that you want to play the game.
So likely if you stay doing AFK mining, you won't see why you should pay for the game and leave after your trial is over.

Go out and do stuff.

Go explore (a simple frigate can run low end stuff).
Go PvP (buy a couple of cheap fitted frigates and go blow others up and be destroyed).
Go do something while at the keyboard.

I should say that i only mine when im doing something else on the computer (email etc) just for coin on the side while im not playing.

How do i get into PvP? just fly out into 0.5 and under and shoot people?

Easiest way is to go into low-sec (anything that is 0.4 or lower) and shoot others.
Keep in mind that you WILL loose a couple of ships cause you will be competing with others who have more skills, better gear and most of all more knowledge about the game and its mechanics.

For genuine PvP lifestyle, I do suggest to take a look in Faction Warfare (FW) or Red vs Blue (RvB).

RvB will be your easiest route to a taste of PVP.
They have an open door policy (No min skills), and specialize in T1 ships, so you might even win a few fights!
Also they have a no podding policy, so you can use +3 implants without too much risk.

You could always keep your main as a carebear and start another trial as PVP focused dude.

After 21 days decide which to sub!

Definitely a good idea to meet people and make friends early on. The community in EVE is great and the best way to see if you'll enjoy PvP is to get out there and try it out!! Plenty of the corporations out there are available options to try your hand at the various communities and professions!

That was null sec then.

What you encountered was a warp bubble and those are only usable in null sec (0.0 or lower)

There are a few route directly to null from high sec and you appear to have been unfortunate to have found one the hard way xD

It was indeed null-sec.

But he didn't use the few high-sec <> null-sec gate.
He did went through low-sec and made that alive

I lived in that area in EvE before and believe there is one low-sec jump between BWF and high-sec.

As for the fit of your ship:

Don't mix guns.

You have 3 different type of guns on that ship which is bad.
Pick one and fill the ship with it, this way if you are in the optimal position to shoot, all your guns will be useful instead of just one of the types.

Does the also go for missile ships as well i.e. just have one type of missile loaded?

Yes. Though a bit less important cause of the damage calculation is different

Fit one type of missile. So full rack of long or short range.

This is gonna sound moronic at first but hear me out: watch YouTube videos.

With just 21 days of the game you will not be able to see what we'd like to call, a "gudfite" or simply good fight, in full. You are going to get ganked, podded, splattered all over the place because you have little SP and little friends. Building up a character and a network of players takes time. Time you don't have on just a trial. Check out some vids on stuff you like. Small gang pvp is a good example, see how people gang up on others. Your will gain more pespective on pvp mechanics and on how people interact, what abbrevations are used over voice comms, etc. I applaud you are getting your feet wet with pvp anyway, so last bit of advice: don't take the game too serious, lose some ships and gain some friends: your experience will be the better for it.

think i may be done with this game now. another ship gone. How the **** can i learn pvp when as soon as i enter 0.4 i get warp jammed from 20km away (meaning i cant do a THING) take what seemed to be 4 hits then im over.

http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=15661634

Im taking it pvp is hopless untill i've spent 6months+ on the game.

I understand this game isnt newb or solo friendly but COME ON. Money to buy the ship and equip's then 20min to get to 0.4 space and dont even get to MOVE my bloody ship before im destroyed.

I am a patient man, but this is insane. Doesnt help i cant find a active corp. the one im in has only 4ppl online at a time and the hardly say word

Solo pvp is very hard.

Look for a good corp and pvp in fleet. You will be able to learn a lot more.

Solo PvP is tough even for experienced players. What you want when you are new is to get in fleets. It sounds like you picked a small corp, which is fine but not for everybody. If you want to PvP in larger fleets early in the game, in a situation where your few skills will be valued, try RvB for fast action or EVE University for personal engagement and instruction.

Hum. What do you think would happen if you went onto Halo multiplayer, on your own against a team of 5 people who have been playing for 5 years. Not only that but they all have tanks and helicopters and rocket launchers, whereas you only have a pistol with 2 bullets. Would you then go onto the Halo forums and say "how am I meant to learn PVP"??

No, of course you will never learn anything if you charge into futile battles where you are outnumbered, outshipped and outclassed. All that will happen is that you will get killed and they will tea bag you.

If you want to learn PVP then you need to go about it differently.

I'm not sure if it will help if you knew that your experiencing the same thing a 2 year old character would experience if he wandered into low and null for the first times.

There are actually many things that you can do to avoid or escape gate camps and bubbles, not every trick works every time, but that's where player experience comes in.

Your advantage is that you are putting yourself in a position to learn these lessons cheap and early.

Fleet fights would be a great chance for you to inflict hurt, but I would encourage you to keep trying solo to learn all the little tricks many never master.
Don't forget to ask your killers for tips advice.... And best if luck in your travels
