Forum likes in the context of an individual poster never meant much anyway. They're more useful when considering individual posts.

It's not exactly an effort... it's a piece of javascript which triggers the like button click for every post on a page. You can see certain people with it in their signatures.

It's still an effort, either by setting up the script or by caring enough to activate it.
AFAIK the first script however was per-page likes, so you could only like what, 20 people? at the time, which would make the effort involved much larger.
I'm not too keen on defining the effort involved, but I still like that DSQ is doing it.
