This is an update of the previous guide to posting on the Ships and Modules channel.

Before you ask a question or post

  • Check the Set-up Index to see if a similar set-up already exists. If it does, please use that thread and either ask for a rating of your thread (reply to the thread in question) or discuss one of the set-ups already suggested there. This reduces the amount of new threads, bumps the already existing thread, and adds to the discussion in progress.
  • If you have problems finding an older thread, EvE-Search might be able to help you find the one you are looking for on our old forums.

When you ask a question or post

  • State what you want a set-up for. This makes it easier for people to give advice - there are many different kinds of setups, the most common being PvE or PvP set-ups, but a PvP-fleet set-up and a PvP small gang set-up can be two very different things. As a rule of thumb, the more precise your question is, there more precise your answer will be. So if you will be fighting Guristas in your mission or belts, say so.
  • If possible, include generally how many skill points you have and what kind of equipment you can use. If you are asking for a Level four mission set-up for a Raven, and cannot use T2 missiles and/or tanking gear, it might be an idea to include this in your post.

When you reply to a question or a post

  • Try to be constructive and helpful. Point out the flaws in either the set-up or the question in a constructive and helpful way. The Ships and Modules Forum is where a lot of new players come for advice and help and they might not be familiar with how to go about getting a set-up. Instead of trolling or flaming their thread/post, point them towards the Set-up Index or help them out. This way, the next time they have a question, they know what to do and where to go.
  • If you don't have anything constructive or helpful to say; don't post. Trolling and flaming people will be dealt with in accordance to the forum rules, and you might end up losing your posting privileges. It is perfectly okay to disagree with a set-up or a tactic, but do so in a constructive and polite manner.
And finally the reward for reading all this is that when you post you much more likely to get a response you need \o/ wasn't that worth it?

Example Post - Asking for a set-up

Hi. I'm a relatively new player, and I would like to have some inputs on a Level-3 Mission set-up for my Harpy. I've got about 3,5 million SP, 1 mill in gunnery and can use t2 small hybrid guns (blasters/railguns) and t2 shield boosters/hardeners.
My current set-up is:
[High-Slots]
(Enter your highslots)
[Med-Slots]
(Enter your medslots)
[Low-Slots]
(Enter your lowslots)

Hi Zymurgist,
I'd use (module this) instead of (module that) because of (argument x). Also, I'd swap (module x) with another (module z) if you are fighting (faction r).
How about this set-up?

[High-Slots]
(Enter your highslots)
[Med-Slots]
(Enter your medslots)
[Low-Slots]
(Enter your lowslots)

Now for your reward: More respect and quicker responses from your fellow pilots!
