@ Grim Temar, have you tried running repair.exe? Worked for me.

Not Grim alt whatsoever but flowing this thread with high interest.

As stated before I have several stability issues, this workaround could be some "A" solution if the same machine using Vista32 in another hard drive wouldn't run Eve (almost) perfectly as it does, which means it has nothing to do with hardware problems or connection/isp issues.

Win8 seems to take over "some stuff" and uses whatever drivers (directx11???) despite whatever Eve commands, I'm not computer expert but this illogical stuff (as per usual with stuff done by nerds...) has no head or shoulders and even less feet so we could at least point at something and say "haha, yer ****** stuff gotcha", no, there's nothing I can do other than run Eve with vista 32....awesome stuff is probably not that awesome.

Any news from CCP dudes?

Having major graphical glitches with windows 8 in eve. It runs but it makes my eyes hurt right now.
The issue what I am getting is crazy colors like it is running almost in a different bit mode. I have no idea why though.

My system is as follows

Asus P67 Deluxe
I7 2600k
16gb Ram
2x HD6970
SSD and HDD
Graphic driver is 12.11

I am having the same issue as this fellow... only I'm on windows 7 64bit. I can confirm if i disable crossfire the problem goes away. I had to roll back to catalyst 12.8 whql to remove the problem. I am sorry for posting here this seems to be the only thread I can find where other users are experiencing the graphical problems with latest drivers.
My system is as follows..

MSI P67a-DG65 (B3)
I7 2600k

Graphic driver is 12.11 beta 8

Had a slight problem. Not 100% that its Windows 8 related.

Would click on EVE icon on desktop, and it would open up the launcher. Would then click the 'Play' button and it would 'depress' like I actually clicked it, but nothing happened. The odd part is, the night before, I was playing EVE, running 2 accts simultaneously, the launcher just stopped functioning.

The workaround if anyone should have this issue:

Go into your CCP folder in Program files ->EVE -> bin -> EXEfile

My problem with windows 8 was that I would try to run the eve launcher for the first time, and it completely crashed my computer to the point of where it did an immediate restart. After running the repair tool and everything checked out ok, I went to run eve in both "safe mode" and normal launcher yet it would give an error message [u]:

"See the logfile'C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\launcher\launcher.exe.log' for details"

Looked at the forums and although our problems are different, running the client directly seems to have allowed me to play the game. Here are my system specs as requested.
Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
Model: Satellite L875D
Processor: AMD A6-4400M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 2.7 GHz
Installed Memory (RAM): 6.00 Gb (5.46 usable)
System Type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-Based Processor

If this helps, let me know. Thank you.
If I have anymore issues, I will let you fine folks at CCP know.

on windows 8 64 bit, latest graphics card drivers, retribution install is currently exiting the exeFile automatically every time i try to run it from the launcher. If i run it directly it does not work either.

running the exefile from the launcher or directly with windows xp service pack 3 compatibility mode works, running from windows 7 compatibility does not work

Which graphics card do you have, and what drivers?

EVGA 570ti, latest drivers as of a week ago. I believe new drivers have just been released a day or two ago so i will check and try it out without the compatibility settings afterwords.

I upgraded to Windows 8 a few months ago. Not a problem so far until today and I'm using the same install from win 7. but the patch failed today may not be a windows 8 issue but here's the log in-case you interested:

Edit, running the repair fix the issue and has patched fine now. So still no Win 8 problems Not just in Eve either so for once Microsoft have done a good job for a change :-) IMO atleast

I just got a new laptop with windows 8 already installed and I tried loading eve onto it using the quantum rise cd download and the patch update after. It took the quantum rise but it wont do the patch update. I just saw the forums on this and thought id let you know what I did. so when do we expect to find out when a patch has been done for eve to be used on windows 8?

Hey all,

Just bought a new computer with a fresh instalation of windowds 8 with up to date drivers and for me it runs as smood as possible. At this point i can run six accounts at the same time with al settings at max. even when in QC.

My system is as follows:
intel core I7 2.2ghz
nvidia geforce GT 630M 1G
6Gb DDR3 Memory

EDIT: And DirectX 11

This is where I put my signature, right?

Had no OS specific issues since switching to Windows 8. Last patch resulted in an error and inability to load but the repair tool solved this. A friend on similar hardware and running Windows 7 had similar issues.

3 monitor setup - 2 clients usually running.

AMD X6 1090T 3.6GHz Black Edition
8 GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 6850
AMD Radeon HD 6450
DirectX 11

Not going to try and convince anyone to change their minds but so far my experience with Windows 8 has been fairly positive. I got the pro version for a hard to resist $15 and for the first few days I found all the changes a bit hard to work with. After a couple of days I got used to the changes and after a couple of months I can't really see myself going back to 7. Any issues I've had have usually been solved by just running programs as admin.

Before I gave it a go I thought it sounded horrible. After trying it I feel I over reacted.

John Ricar: I wouldn't have even tried to patch from Quantum Rise. I wouldn't have thought that would have worked on any other version of windows with all the changes to the way eve updates itself. If you can spare the bandwidtch you are probably better off just downloading a fresh client. If you can't maybe you can get hold of a friends copy?

Well some feedback to the OP:

So far so good with Windows 8 64bit Pro.

No real problems, although I'm currently having some issues with EVE Voice - namely the Push to talk keeps cutting out even though I have the talk key depressed. I'm assuming this is a Windows 8 issue, because it was fine on XP 64 Pro before.

I sometimes have issues with PTT on TS3 and Ventrilo. I know with those programs it is solved by running the program as admin.

NVM fixed my issue. Just to let you all know:

TeamSpeak with the overlay plugun will not let EVE run. When starting eve, make sure there is no teamspeak with the TS overlay plugin running, or you wont be able to run the game in W8.

Just got a brand new computer with Windows 8 and having issues with Eve client crashing often. Seems to happen under following circumstances specifically when I have 2 clients running:

1. At initial login just after selecting the character to log into
2. When undocking,
3. When starting a mission, just as targeting begins

I have graphics settings mixed between max and medium (tried all low too) and I have HD off. Both clients in windowed mode.

I did a clean Windows 7 Ultimate 64 install. Upgraded to Windows 8 Pro 64.
Downloaded updated nvidia drivers. Updated everything else..

Game still crash after a random time playing.. from 10 seconds to 5 minutes.. This freeze the whole laptop.

Laptop is Asus K50i
Nvidia Geforce GT 320M 1GB
8 GB RAM
128 GB SSD
Too lazy to open to look at CPU.

But with windows 7 installed, I can run Eve with no problem whatsoever. So must be something with that combination Windows 8, Asus K50i and Eve..

The crash I experienced with the Win 8 beta too..

I'm having a similar problem as one of the users on the first page with two computers running intel GPU's. This is not a new problem as it happened in windows 7 too. Whenever you alt+tab or close out of the game, the colors on the desktop go neon colors. The issue now however is that the fix that worked in windows 7 (disabling aero and re-enabling, or running the game in windows basic) is no longer viable.

This is almost certainly an issue with the way Eve/Intel drivers/Intel GPU interact and like I said it is not a new issue but the fix to the issue is now gone because of MS ridding windows 8 of any sort of "windows classic"-ness. The gpu's in question are not new enough to get new drivers for windows 8 but even when they were running the drivers for windows 7 the problem was still there.

I can grab dxdiag/gpu-z/etc dumps if you're interested but, I'm not sure about this one getting fixed since its such an old issue. It's only recently became a problem due to the "easy-fix" being gone.

Googling around has got me nothing other than that restarting it fixes it. If you could end the DWM process that might fix it but I have no idea what thats going to do to windows.

Edit: I'm also consistently crashing when I alt+tab on my Sager laptop with 9800m gpu. Drivers are updated on that one.

Edit 2: Found a work around for the first issue, after killing the dwm process, it fixed the colors for me.

1. Right Click Taskbar->Task Manager
2. Find "Desktop Windows Manager" in the task list (should be in the second half) and right click it->Go To Process
3. End the Process Tree

Tested with all Guru3D available versions to try to fix my main issue and does absolutely nothing.

CPU/Mem use is about 3% with single client running and unless Eve requires 1GB internet bandwidth, which I strongly doubt, this is not even possibly the explanation to my problem.
GC GPU/mem is never stressed continuously but only by spikes going from 25/30% to 100% making my travels nice and simple with or without all settings on top and become a strobe nightmare if there's more than a couple ships on grid, forget even a lvl3 mission, gate camp, fleet or simply cross at the gate more than 2 ships, it's 80's strobe funky time.

However, initial problem about screen getting all black but still showing grid/hud is gone for me.
->Randomly at undock or gate jumping hud shows 30% dmg shields/hull/structure is still present
->cargo or windows not remembering their previous position still happens, randomly without any sort of specific behavior

While this would be less of a problem if I was playing in high sec because there's always some low risk activity, this is absolutely nasty and the best medicine against null sec playing, I'm stuck for weeks now not being able to play and still no solution, workaround or little word from CCP guys kinda like "heya guys we're aware of your shift, be patient we're dealing with"

Sad panda

Edit: rig already posted a couple pages before and Win8 64 pro full updated, latest Nvidia and other hardware drivers on top.

Under Windows 8 the TeamSpeak 3 Overlay plugin can prevent a second eve client opening on the same machine. For example if I start one client then join TS3 with the Overlay the launcher will fail to open a second client. Close ts3 and it opens fine.

It can be inconsistent. If TS3 is open it can stop any eve instance opening. Other times the overlay will prevent you typing in your password on the log in screen (you have to click on the overlay first).

I'm assuming these are all Windows8/TS3 issues. I've no issues to report with the eve client itself
