First, any realistic threat of that nature needs to be reported to the police. CCP ain't gonna protect nobody.

Second, since the threats didn't take place within a CCP related product or environment, there wouldn't be much they would likely do except advise to block said individual. Any ingame threats made can be properly petitioned.

Third, addressing CCP directly needs to be done via petition, not via General Discussion. This is literally one of the worst places to post about it, except maybe in a forum section that never sees the light of day.

I'm glad to see the first reply is actually a non-troll and filled with the proper ways to deal with it. Good work! I applause you! *thumbs up*

@others, I'm glad to see so many good replies and lack of trolls. Makes me very happy! Good work everyone!

@op, like others said, if this is real life threats - file it with the police as well as let CCP know you filed it.

Best of luck and hope the person stops and realize that taking things out of game is just plain wrong.

Yes, I'm posting on an alt, and I would prefer to keep it that way as I don't want my current corporation and alliance dragged into this.

I would like a Dev or GM's response to this issue, because it's one that we have been having with this particular CEO. Recently, my previous corporation and alliance joined a war against my alliance. The CEO of the WT alliance has a history of if not being mentally unstable, then violent and petulant enough that he is very likely to act on his impulses.

Today, the CEO of the alliance we are at war with was talking on Ventrilo with his corpmates. One of them runs a LiveStream that he has running often enough. The CEO of the WTs has been upset because he views the current corporation as "stabbing him in the back" as he puts it. Most of us are for one reason or another no longer in his corporation because we either can't stand him, or because we just don't want to hear him whine.

On the Ventrilo (which was captured by the LiveStream), he mentioned our CEO by name. He then said that he had "stopped by his house" and that he had intended to beat our CEO to a pulp. He even claimed that he had a baseball bat in his car when he had driven to our CEO's house, and he knows where our CEO lives. Naturally, considering we all thought this was a very likely action given his mental instability, our first reactions were to call our CEO to make sure he was okay. Thankfully he had been out doing last minute Christmas shopping with his wife and daughter, so he couldn't say if the guy had shown up or not. Either way, the threat was very real, and we didn't get to hear much more before the CEO demanded the player stop the LiveStream.

Understanding that CCP has no real options when it comes to Ventrilo or other VOIP programs, what is CCP's take on real-life threats made against players of their game?

here
report it to the FBI ASAP

Lock his stupid arse up

I like how you tards are assuming this is in the United States.

The FBI are basically tourists in any other country.

chances are people who plays this game are American.
Since they constitutes the majority of the gaming industry revenues.

Second, FBI have tight connections with police worldwide.

Although most likely such trivial cases won't drag Interpol into this , at least FBI has a higher chance of actually solving the case instead of filing it and closing it if you report it to local police station which in most cases will dismiss your report for its "out of their jurisdiction"

Its pretty easy to tell that, since they were actually doing something, rather then just sitting around and bitching.

Also all the other places only offer tourism, no other real reason to be there.

This sort of thing has happened before - I know of several incidents in Europe where RL threats have been made. I know of one instance where items were put through the letterbox with the implication "oh look any of these could be a firebomb". The guy went to jail for a couple of years for that.

I don't believe CCP will get involved as the threats were not made on their infrastructure.

How about your CEO don't give his real name and address to people in the web?

Not blaming him for nothing but ... giving your personal data to someone in a computer game its just terrible irresponsible.
Should be pretty clear this days that there are dangerous people everywhere.

That sort of pointless bravado tends to leave one party in the morgue and the other in jail. Tell your CEO to stop being an idiot and call the police already.

Besides, the other guy could have two shotguns and four rifles, and bring those instead of the baseball bat next time and get the jump on your CEO. It's best for him to take the initiative and get the police involved to prevent harm in the first place, not wait for harm to come to him then scramble to find a shotgun on the sidewalk when he's out walking the dog one afternoon.

What if the guy decides to beat up his wife while she is out shopping, or his daughter on her way home from school, or just beats him to a cripple one night when he is not armed? The biggest problem with guns, is that they are worthless when someone really wants to hurt you, and he has all the time in the world.

A smart guy would go to the cops, a idiot would buy a gun.

I'm a relatively respectable citizen. Multiple felon perhaps, but certainly not dangerous.

I'd say go to the Police, or FBI, or who ever the Law Enforcement is where you are.
As you've said they are both in the USA, and it seems, the same city, that shouldn't be too hard to do.

I've had to go to the Police before (in New Zealand) in regards to getting threats and the like in my previous jobs.

I find it best to sit at the PC, and type out a statement about the offence(s) I am wanting to report.
Try and be as detailed as you can. The Police might have questions about what bought all this on, so I'd try and cover that in the statement.

The less they have to ask, and the more detail you give, chances are it will make their job easier, and the faster they can act.
If you have a recording of the LiveStream, then that would be awesome. Burn it as an audio CD** and take it with you.

** Government Departments here at least tend to stay away from flash drives and the like...never know who might be trying to sneak a virus in there.

WOW WHEE somebody sure doesn't understand the role of contingency in evolutionary development.
The impulse to smash someone's head when they beat you at a game of tic-tac-toe is what we call a 'relative evolutionary success.' That is, any sort of drive or impulse that was once vital but is now toxic luggage can be considered part of what got us out of the jungle, but also part of what's holding us back from immortality and the stars.
We all live in a small part of a grand picture of a species dragging a boat called savagery up a mountain, the sea left far behind.

Get the cops on this guy.

I agree with everyone who says to call the police.

Tell you corp CEO to do so. Call the police and submit a report about the other CEO's threats and that the other CEO said he had shown up with a baseball bat. This will open a file on the crazy CEO which will mean that if something further happens (another threat) then the police -will- be able to do something like a restraining order. Then, if the crazy CEO breaks that, the crazy CEO can be detained and possibly arrested.

But the first step is for your corp CEO to report this to the local police. This is really important. There is no reason not to do this. So please, convince your corp's CEO to report it.

Stand your ground laws. Learn to love them for the protection they afford a US citizen where you can bring your gun to a baseball bat fight and get away with it.

Let me rephrase my previous comment.

In the left corner we have CEO NiceGuy, loving father, gentle husband, upstanding citzen. He's got his Christmas decorations up and he's not worried about death threats because he has two rifles and a shotgun! Of course he only has two hands like the rest of us but hey. He's in the holiday spirit and the doorbell rings - that must be aunt Maude, she's always early that silly old gal!

In the right corner we have CEO Psycho, single, neckbearded, lives in his mother's basement and he's got violence on his little mind 24/7. His Christmas celebrations include masturbating to reindeer porn and eating more hot pockets than usual. He has a baseball bat and he wants to hurt someone.

The door opens and the fight begins at two paces! Ding ding!

I got five bucks on the psycho.

Now what if we replace CEO NiceGuy with a couple of large policemen and have the whole thing start at CEO Psycho's door instead?

If someone is threatened in game, within the EVE Online client, in a channel or by mail, then they should petition immediately under the harassment category and it will be investigated thoroughly.

That said, if someone is threatened on EVE voice (which is hosted by Vivox and is only proxied through Tranquility), or via any other VOIP software, sadly we can neither verify or act on this.

I will stress however, that threatening behavior toward another EVE Online player is taken extremely seriously, and if at any point a member of our Community feels that they may come to harm by the actions of another EVE player or is being physically threatened, pursued out of game or intimidated, then we recommend that they immediately contact their local law enforcement agency.

We do not tolerate toxic and aggressive behavior like this.

That said, I'm going to lock this thread, because the forums are not the place for discussion of this nature and I know from past experience that this thread will go downhill fast.
