My thoughts on that is.. hmm, yeah. Repackaging a ship would reset the counter, but you'd get a warning first before repackaging, and the warning will tell you specifically about the counter.

I also see some of you have mentioned that you don't see the need for rat kills counted.. and I can live with that. But we defo need the pvp counter.. to motivate more pvp. More votes please... lets get ccp's attention.

another good idea, and would breath life into the dead contracts market.

Why would the database have a problem with it? each unpackaged ship is already its own object with its own attributes, etc. all this would be doing is adding one more category to each database entry . . . im sure they each already have dozens . . .

Just note that repackaging the ship would reset the counter, so the database doesnt have a whole bunch of new classes to keep track of.

keeping track of every ship and its specific feets would put a huge burden on the server.
because we would want all the roids we downed counted on our barges. all the rats we kill with our drones, every time we escaped certain doom from the hands of a pvper who attack defenseless craft. yeah, all that should be counted too.

as much as you guys like to pat yerselves on the back, i think it might be a little much on the servers.

remember back in the day when the domi could drop 10 drones? yeah, it would be like that again everytime someone warped onto grid with u.

Would be a neat feature to see how many kills my ship has under its belt, before being destroyed.
This would be NPC as well as player ships. Neat for ratting, and ofc. pvp.

Just adds to the fleshing out of ships. Now the only unique thing we can do to a ship is type in a name.

Just a quick thought.

Awesome Idea, I love it.... PVP only though and real kills only please!

On a side note I do this the other way around...... when I fit a ship I always give it a latin name, if it dies but I like the fit and remake it, its not "yada yada II"

and so on....im waiting for some of my more common but paper thin t1 frigs in FW roams to get to 'yada yada" XXVI or something lol

Good idea, a nice pvp boost. But i think that rats arenĀ“n needed in this statistic, cause you already get around 100 rat kills after a few level 2 missions.

Also the ideas with the contracts sounds interesting, also i would be interessted in the price of ships with 10 or 100 kills. But i think those ships will be as often flown as any ship of the state faction line like the Caldari State Raven or collector ships like the Sarum Magnate.

I've had a good think about this and if there were kill counts for NPCs, they should just be officer kills.

great feedback guys. Because of this feedback, I have changed my first post to not include NPC kills, but only count PLAYER SHIP kills.. Thank you. Happy new year.

A very nice idea, however it could also work for the npc's.
You just have to have alot ( really alot ) more npc kills before you get a reward.

Reward? i think a reward is not needed, just a high K/D rate like you normally have in Shooters is enough.
If you still need something like a medal, it can created by your corp or ally.

It blows my mind how uneducated you are about this game. When someone flies a Hyperion, he doesn't fly Hyperion #546464, he flies the Hyperion database entry. All the Hyperions in the game draw from a single data entry. What your idea does (same with Build date or # of first # built) will put a lot of strain on an already strained database.

The ability to add a skull and cross bones onto the side of a vessel after getting a confirmed pod kill would be nice. Would be a cool status symbol whist travelling in said vessel.

Clearly you're not a programmer . . .

Yes each ship type is a class, with attributes (slot number and layout, HP, Model, etc) but when you unpackage it, it becomes its own class object with its own attributes IE what module is in what slot, and how much damage the armor has taken, what drones are in the drone bay etc.

When you repackage the item, it reverts to a generic item of that class, which is why you cannot repackage damaged items, the database will assume its a new class item when you unpackage it again.

All this would be doing is adding a simple float to the class item (actually probably an unsigned int)

Learn what youre talking about first, speak second.

EDIT:
The only real problem would be loading all of the kill numbers and rendering them separately on all the ships in a fleet battle, which is why i think you should be able to turn them off, both for yourself (being able to hide your kill count from others) and for everyone else (so you dont have to see anyone elses kill count)

Sounds good,

Maybe have
A = 1k
B = 10k
C = 100k

and have ABC as different customisable icons. This would clear up the too many kills to fit on the ship issue.

A Kill counter in the character sheet would be good aswell, probably in the combat section showing NPC kills, PC kills, and your K/D. maybe even a total time played counter as well...

Lets not make this more complicated than it has to be.. To get this so CCP actually sees it, we need to get the basic thing in first. Kill counter for player ships, pods excluded. All the other riff raff like medals, A's B's and C's can wait.

AFAIK there would be no way to keep it if the ship got repackaged...but yes, I like this idea.

To keep from overburdening the server, perhaps they should only load when the viewer's camera is close enough to she ship to see them? Would likely create some visible texture pop-in, though.
