Standing increase question

Hello there,

Got a question regarding the way standing increase works.

Upon completing the very same mission, from the very same agent (same system too), I was getting +0.7923% yesterday. Today I'm getting +0.7921%.

I was wondering what caused that change? I did not level any skill related to standing. Are there any other factor out there affecting standing?

Here is a screenshot: http://imageshack.us/a/img826/7048/eve3q.png

Note that the same happened for other missions as well (from the same agent), and it looks like the cut out line was the server restart. (Prior 11AM today I was getting a higher % increase than after right now).

Thanks again.

If I recall correctly, the higher your standing is, the less you gain per mission. The percentage increase is based on your current standings. So if you gained any standings, the increases took effect during downtime, and now you make a bit less per mission.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong...

That's what I thought, obviously as my rating increase, the % gain will be lower. (Same absolute gain + higher standing total = lower %).

I was just unsure if that would only be refreshed once a day during downtime. I will confirm that tomorrow!

Thanks for the answer.

You're close but not quite there.

A given standing increase will (ie 1%) will have less of an impact on your total standings as your standings increases, but the percentage increase given by a certain mission is not dependant on your standings. Standings increases are measured by the percentage change relative to 10. So a 1% standings increase will change a standing of 0.00 to 0.10 or 5.00 to 5.05, etc.

Mission rewards (including standings gains) are dynamically balanced. They will change slightly with time. You might also find that the ISK or LP payouts for a given mission will also vary from time to time. The difference between +0.7923% and +0.7921% is well within the margin for this dynamic balancing. Would you fret if the mission reward changed from 7,923,000 ISK to 7,921,000 ISK?

I think you missed the point entirely. I don't really care about earning 0.0002% more or less standing, ISK or whatever. I'm just curious about the mechanic itself. I like trying to understand what is going on around me, even if it's a very small detail.

@Matalino

Thanks for the reply. I ran couple mission today, and increase is lower than yesterday and day before yesterday.

With this mission 1.3222% > 1.3214% > 1.3199%

Few people except noobs run mining missions, and they take a long time to do it. If you're the only one blitzing the same mining missions at some obscure lvl2 agent, you yourself might be the one pushing down rewards.

Training up the various Social Skills will help net you a higher reward up to a certain point, then you'll have to move up in agent level. Also various missions will give out different payouts.

It seems to me that the longer it takes to complete a mission, it will generate more reward / standing gain, again up to a certain point.

Maybe you're completing that mission faster than before due to skills, better equipment, etc.

Hope this helps: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Standings_mechanics

I'm not an expert at the Standings Mechanics but this could answer some of your questions. As this is a locked wiki page it usually indicates it is monitored by the ISD:YARR team and CCP so this is an Official Page.

Thanks for the link :) It doesn't directly answer my question, still instructive. Formulas explain how my standing toward a faction/NPC is being calculated.

However it doesn't explain how rewards for a specific mission is and why it varies between each downtime.

I purposelessly did not run any mission today with my miner and will try to run some after today's downtime and see what kind of reward I will get. If the reward is the same as 48hr ago, then it means that rewards are affected by my current standing.

If the reward changes, then it means that there is indeed some kind of dynamic system and that rewards varies daily (According to what factor(s)/formula(s)? No clue!).

Edit: Actually, even if I didn't run missions for a whole day, since the only way to check if the reward changed is to run a new mission again, then the reward will change.

As for the theory of "repeating the same mission lower the reward", as I'll be on holiday and unable to play for an extended period of time soon, I will check if that's true when coming back after holidays.

No skill/equipment factor changed between these 3 days. (Any Social Skill would have a bigger impact anyway, we are talking here about a 0.1~0.2% change).

As for the speed, I doubt that it plays a role, granted my mining speed isn't perfectly constant (usually doing other things while mining, so I'm not 100% focused), however it wouldn't explain why the reward would constantly decrease after each downtime and not in between. I don't think that reward is scaled with speed at all (beside the bonus).

Edit: Run a mission again after downtime: http://imageshack.us/a/img407/668/eve5.png

Down to 1.3178% now. So yeah my guess is: the higher your standing is with an agent, the lower the % reward will be, and that's updated only once a day, during downtime.
