For convenience sake obviously.

Self destruct generates a kill mail now, so I don't think there is any real reason for it to be two minutes anymore.

I think 30 seconds sounds like a reasonable timer.

Eh?

now that Self D'ed ships are Killmailed, who cares. If you wanna see your Carrier gone in 30 seconds, just gives me more time to dock up and get dinner.

I agree, and while we are changing self destruct lets add some area effect damage to it depending on ship size and race. Twisted

Not just for self destruct. AOE damage on ship explossions would go so far towards discouraging blobbing. Awesome idea.

....and this is why I read the forums.

Somehow, I missed this change. I am glad I have not SD'd since Retribution.

And it also explains the Alliance ship buy back program... Smile

I propose no timer with self destruct... it'll be instant but 100% module and cargo drop

Instant self destruct?

But how will the protagonist and his friend's escape in time?

By using the momentary distraction of an unexpected exploding ship and then using their second chance to attend a class to learn all about the apostraphe and when it is to be used

And then a second class detailing its proper spelling.

I've been drinking so I'm excused from that class on account of me being drinking (as usual) Big smile

I'd be quite ok with the instant part. I don't think 100% loot drop is reasonable, the usual 50/50 chance should do.

Just reduce the timer for self-destructing pods.

Why would you want to reduce the timer.

As it stands right now there isn't any reason to self destruct a ship (not that there was any reason before).

The one thing a 2 minute timer does is give someone time to reconsider.
That and it makes them stew for 2 minutes Twisted
I really don't see what the problem is.

But there was, no killmail was generated from a successful self-destruct. Yes, there are people so pathetic, that this was a major issue for them. It was harped on for YEARS on these forums to change self-destruct so it would either be removed from the game (which would be an... interesting change) or at least generate a killmail.

Roughly a year ago CCP saw a need to cater to the EvE playerbase because they were losing subscribers by the masses, so they added in a bunch of features on the "most wished-for" list, and this was one of them.

Indeed. I wasn't a fan of this change tbh, I felt it a way for others to give the aggressor the bird.
I personally think it should have been KM only, but as per usual CCP went too far the other way.
