Faction War Mechanics Question

I understand that upon joining a FW side, the opposing group (pilots and navy drones, etc.) can engage you. Typically if you are running missions and shooting faction npc's your standings will go into the drink and is persistent until you mission for that faction to bring standing back up. ie. shooting Gallente NPCs while running Caldari Navy Security missions.

If I participate in FW and all it entails (pvp, pve, etc.) and at some point decide to stop, does the same effect happen? If I join Minmatar then quit to do something else, will I be effectively cut off from conducting business in Amarr space until I mission grind (yuck) my faction status back up after quitting Minmatar FW?

Yes.

If you just pvp and stay away from plexes, it won't be an issue. But participating in the sov war or running missions will tank your faction standing.
