I smell an alt/troll. Why constantly wait to get good to join a corporation than ask at the end to get in one now? Also who continues to buy plexs and put it in one ship?

Trust me, many people do. just today some guy in help channel asked for help with his Navy domi 0.0 ratting fit. I couldn't talk him out of the faction turrets, tank or ship itself. Explained to him that he'd probably lose it before the weekend and his reply was "I don't care, I just want to have owned it once".

Well the faction tank I can relate too, they are sometimes that little bit extra you need.
The guns and ship itself. Damn.

Just to echo others, SP does not make you good at eve, it just helps give you an edge, you are prob looking at the wrong things to take you forward and going for bigger = better etc.

Don't rush, go at your own pace, join a corp with 9mil sp sure alot would bring you in, its the people and interaction that make this game good :-)

You'd be very surprised. I ran into a guy that erected a factory pos in low sec and faction fit his bestowers but had no clue that he had the option to redock at stations before he got killed in them. When asked why he was suiciding so many things he said he was rich and could afford enough plex to play any way he likes. He was also in the top 10 bounty list on day one like he was some kind of dangerous pirate.

I'm not sure if giving his name out is against the rules but it's Weedplzanonomous or something like that....terrible player...actually that gives a bad name to terrible players...he also thinks he is an anon hacker, a body builder and mma fighter, married to a super model and prince of some country (I forget which one...).

The above links lead to some really amusing reading to say the very least.

I would of course note that ultimately time invested results in unavoidable, valuable player knowledge & experience. At least if the player studies & puts into practice various things learned through genuine experience. SP can -never- solve the player related education challenges. On the other hand It is somewhat regrettable that time & SP grant options for a 'main' character, and potential that is impossible without time & SP.

If there is any way out of that situation, one can learn to build a very tightly skilled/crafted alt / character. Skill it solidly with an eye to very specific roles & activities. With a -very low quantity of SP-, you can get away with ~alot~. You can choose to never train that alt beyond a certain point. As it does only and precisely what you want it to do.

First, go fly around a highsec system and hunt miners and ratters and whatnot. Don't attack them, just try to sneak around and pounce on them and say "boo!" at the screen when you get close to them. Then fly off.

Epic!

The other one, is to approach hi sec scanners 100km off the sun and type "Don't you ever look out your window?" in local.
You should see them panic.

It's a lie, SP does matter...... but only in the way you use these skills.

I was really worried about SP at first, actually. I kept finding myself looking at the character bazaar (really bad idea if you don't already have a character you want in mind) and was actually contemplating dropping enough money on PLEX in order to afford some of these high SP characters.

Then I started messing around with Evemon and realized that pretty much anything that I'd ever be interested in doing, I could get skilled up to doing in less than six months. Some more specialized careers would actually take far less than that.

So now I have six accounts which are simultaneously training for various specialized things that I'm interested in (hauling, research, inventing, blue print copying, production, PI, trading, etc.) who will all be phased into my main and alternate accounts once they're 'done' at which point I'll just continue training my main and my alt main in all the really time intensive things that aren't really as necessary. 60 million SP spread across 6 characters can be as effective as 60 million SP on one character if you're focused and know what you're doing.

Then again, if you end up joining a corp and still find that you're not succeeding as well as you'd hoped, maybe you should try expanding into different territory to see if there's another niche which fits you better. I didn't think I'd enjoy inter-regional trading as much as I do before I actually tried it, but I'm not doing too bad at it right now and I actually find myself messing with buy/sell orders when I *should* be getting myself exploded on my PvP character. (Market PvP is best PvP). People tend to enjoy things that they do well and succeed at, so try expanding your horizons a tad and see if that helps.

I mean, maybe it's just not in the cards for you to be a stellar fighter pilot (I sure as hell know I'm miserable at it), but you could find yourself being a kick-ass EWAR or Logi or Combat Scanner, or a myriad of other equally viable occupations.

tl:dr - Join a corp, listen to corp advice, do some more research, expand your horizons and try different occupations.
