Anyone remember when D&D was the cause of stuff like this?

Honestly parenting needs to be examined more closely and all society has to become better at accepting personal blame rather than buck passing.

EVE isn't violent. No blood, no gore. Hell, there isn't even physical fighting and there's only implied death.

DUST 514, on the other hand, is quite violent. And it's sort of linked with EVE. It's a law head-scratch area Lol

That being said...

You know, the "evidence" for the link between gun ownership/availability is a tenuous one, and it can actually be interpreted whichever way you like.

For instance, the USA leads in gun ownership (almost 0.89 per capita), but is the 10th in gun-related deaths (~10 per 100k per year), however it's only 14th in gun-related murders (~4 per 100k per year), with gun-related suicides being fairly high (~6 per 100k per year).

On the other hand, Switzerland is 5th in gun ownership (almost 0.46 per capita, and huge percent of that is automatic weapons), but only 21st in gun-related deaths (~3.5 per 100k per year) and barely the 31st in gun-related murders (~0.5 per 100k per year), gun suicide being at ~3 per 100k per year.
So, half the USA guns, but one eight the murder rate, but half the suicide rate.
I guess you could think gun ownership is closer to gun suicide rate rather than gun murder rate if you only look at those countries.

Then you also have Germany, with 0.3 ownership and a paltry 1.1 death rate, out of which only 0.06 murders, the vast majority being suicides. That's 1/3 of the USA guns, 1/6 suicides, and 1/66 murders.
Daaang.

You also have countries like the UK, with 0.06 ownership (1/15 of USA) and just 0.25 deaths (1/40 of USA), out of which just 0.04 homicide (1/100 of USA !!!) and 0.17 suicide (1/35 of USA).
Hmm.

On the gripping hand, El Salvador has a tiny gun ownership rate in comparison to USA or Switzerland and comparable to the UK (i.e. not even 0.06 per capita) but ranks #1 in gun-related deaths at a whooping ~50.4 per 100k per year, ALL of it being homicides.
Jamaica is in a similar position, with 0.08 ownership but 47.4 homicide, with Honduras (0.06 ownership, 46.7 homicide) and Guatemala (0.13 ownership, 38.5 homicide) pretty similar.
You could actually say that gun ownership has very little to do with gun murder rates, if you ignore economic conditions.
Also, holy bleep at those gun murder rates. Like, seriously ?

...

So, you know... if you cherry-pick, you can find "evidence" to support any hasty conclusion, I guess.
But maybe, just maybe, JUST the guns themselves are not really the most relevant part of the problem, and maybe not the best thing to try to alter first and only in order to try to solve stuff.
Then again, that might also be just a hasty conclusion, so who knows.
Lies, damn lies, and statistics, eh ? Twisted

USA doesn't deal with mental health issues as well as those other countries do and it is much easyer to get hold of a lot of weapons given the lack of checks. Having weapons ment for soldiers being sold to civilians doesnt help matters.

America is in a lot of trouble in a lot of different areas.

Yes, thanks for reminding me I'm getting ancient. I remember my mom wanting to see all my D&D stuff...thankfully I already discovered poontang and it didn't matter. After meeting the sluts I would bring home I'll bet she wished I had just stayed in the basement huffing glue and playing D&D.

My mom always said that if I played D&D I'd go to hell Sad

Then I managed to get my halfling mage up to lvl 25 before I realized that it was costing me the opportunity to touch girls in their fun places

I never had that epiphany moment with regards to those of a female gender and these days I'd much rather read a book.

Recently heard a report that the Chinese government in some area is requiring registration of bladed devices (knives, axes, machetes, etc) because nutjobs there have been using them in violent attacks more and more in the last year or so.

Whack jobs will kill you with a spork if that's all they have access to. It ain't about guns, and it ain't about vidya games.

A spork does damage though, just to the pride of he/she/it who owns it.

Damn, that's sad. I'm at the age where anything more than 10 minutes is considered work but I still wouldn't pass up a good face sitting for reading a book!

On the subject of D&D In my home town of Washington North Carolina a guy named Chris Pritchard Killed his step dad and attempted to kill his mother.

Dungeons & Dragons was said the have been the cause most sources would say. This is where most of the talk back in the day started with the D&D thing I believe.

Lol.

Sez the neckbeard: "I'm not some gun nut. Who needs those things anyway? They are for killing people. I don't have any and I do fine. All I do is play my games and I'm no hurting anybody and I don't need a gun."

....They are going to blame and go after video games....

Neckbeard:"FREEEEEEEEEDOMMMMMMMMM!!! What about my rights? I had nothing to do with Newtown. Who do they think they are?"

I'm sorry but I must admit that in COD2, whenever I smack someone's head off with a rifle butt, I giggle like Loreena Bobbit in a sausage factory.

Don't want to make too much light of things but imagine of one of these ritalin-heads played too much EvE instead of FPS games. Wonder what would happen?
