Plex offer - get an Apotheosis shuttle? Really?

So on the login screen just now I saw the latest offer on PLEX - buy 12 and get an Apotheosis shuttle with an Ishukone watch limited edition shirt.

The free shirt doesn't bother me, as it isn't in game yet last I checked.

But the Apotheosis shuttle? This was a unique item handed out to currently active accounts on EVE's 5th anniversary. It was supposed to be a one off collectors item like the Zephyr, Primae, Echelon and any others I'm forgetting atm.

The key points here are 'one-off' and 'collectors item'. I think it substantially undermines the principle of these anniversary items if CCP are just going to re-release them to push plex sales.

Whatever happened to one-off items being one-off? Or should we be looking forwards to a re-issue of the Imperial Apocalypse next? Only 2 ever issued, for now?

Weren't they just to allow people to explore Wormholes better as a starter ship? I'm probably talking about the wrong ship, but yeah.

It's not so much "collectable" as it is "Useless"

They don't have time or resources to make something new, and they feel like they need to give people something unique.

I am gonna go to Jita Statue in my Apotheosis and stick Marshmallows on the Pointy Bits then wait for the 10 Guys with Lasers who care about this.

You're thinking of the Zephyr.

The Apotheosis does bugger all but the point of any of these things was that they are supposedly issued once and are therefore limited in number. Ergo, 'collectable'.

Re-issuing the thing takes away its significance as being 'unique' and renders the whole exercise pointless. If they are going to be recycled as promotional items to push some PLEX sales then they really are pointless their numbers are no longer limited.

I bought one for 25 Million. Everyone in EVE got on and this sale will barely make a dent in the numbers.

If for some reason it means that EVE Subs go up by a few thousand and helps the game I am willing to let my Apoth drop from 25 Mil to 23.

would you be happier if they had spent the resources to create a new design just for this promotion?

would you be happier if they had handed out a ship that can be manufactured by other players?

Few people will buy that many plex, and those that do will not be hard on cash. The amount of new ships that will be injected will be minimal, and the rarity will be unaffected for the most part. It is still unique, as to get one you'd have had to been at the anniversary, or have a "special" mindset.

Pick any other item(s) available in the next store. Give an item that isn't due to be released for X months. Give out more Quafe Zero (its a booster and so gets consumed) maybe.

I don't have an issue with stuff that isn't otherwise released yet being used, but I do think that when an existing item is meant to be a one-off, then it should stay that way, regardless of what it actually does (even if it does nothing that a normal shuttle doesn't).

The Apotheosis was meant to be about marking a moment in EVE's history, as such it is special even if not powerful.

I agree. Its not really about the shuttle. Its about what is next. CCP is setting it up to make the rarer ships in the game to be released from plex sales.

Tbh I do agreed withe OP's sentiment. I probably wouldn't have made a thread about it, but I certainly won't bash him for having done so himself.

Over time, possessing one of these things will become a nice marker that you've been playing EVE for a significant length of time. Although it's purely sentimental, sentimentality is quite often the only thing that keeps me playing EVE!

As for alternatives, well, there's always making the bundle deal cheaper if you buy a dozen PLEX. If you're DETERMINED to give out something in game though, something new and consumable would be better, like the Quafe boosters or something.

The typical price for them on contracts at the moment is more like 80mill. That's what happens with items that are finite, over time they become more rare and more valuable. The issue here is that CCP are taking away what makes these things special; the fact that they were finite in number.

Also it appears they are also offering Zephyrs as a buddy program reward. So there is no big price tag on those to limit numbers there.
