In-game combat arenas. In high-sec. Where i can bet money. In real people.

Before i get into explaining this, let me just say that it can already be done by a dedicated corp/alliance structure. However, it would not be easelly accesible for the average player. A proper in-game mechanic would attract much more people.


What i am talking about, is creating one or more structured combat arenas were players would duke it out, one on one (or two on two, four on four.. could have several match types) in front of an audience that would be betting ISK in one of the two sides. Gladiator style.

Like a tournament, but instead of having CCP try to organize one (which only happens once every year), you would be giving the players a proper system for them to create as many tournaments as they want.


And before anyone says that creating combat "rules" breaks the game immersion, i say that there are rules in the Alliance Tournaments so the concept is already there. The idea here, is giving the players the tools to create their own Alliance Tournaments, and be able to invest money into it.

Why not?

Make it like this:

Its normal space, no gates to get to it.
Appears on overview so can be warped to.
Arena has to be built by players.
Players can place bets via a NPC broker
Owning player takes a cut of all bets (he can set how much)
Owning player must have faction standing and use charters to keep it anchored.
There is nothing stopping an outside player from interfering, however the arena is equipped with Ewar and guns. Anyone entering the arena or interfering pays the price. Can also be set to black-list certain players (much like a POS) so that they are shoot on sight. Could also include an option to auto-blacklist interfering players.
System can also be set to prevent various players from participating in fights
Fights are ALL setup by players, no automation. The owner/people he gives permission to need to tell the arena which people are on which side.
Arenas could be available in several sizes from 20km across to 200km across.

No player rewards other than betting on/against yourself and loot/salvage if you win, or rewards set for and paid by the arena operator.

Introduces a lot of interesting features including match fixing, as well as giving people a reason to log in when they only have an hour to play.

I have plenty of combat where i live mate =) If you don't want to use it then fine, don't use it. I want some sport in EVE.

Blobbers want blobs, not AT style fights. If people pvp, there will be fewer for the blobs. Oh noez, blobs will die.Cry

Sure. Tell me why do you feel it breaks the game? It appears that something like this has been proposed before.. and people are quite sure that i'm proposing the same thing even though i know nothing about what they are implying.
