EVE Online: A Violent Video Game? Video game violence being looked at.

As most of you know the topic of gun control and, as of today, video games, are the two most discussed and controversial in the US. There are a lot of sites and local news stations picking up on and buying into the whole 'anti-video-game-agenda'. In light of the recent events this is exactly what they needed to start working on that agenda. To take away our rights to bare arms as well as our rights to internet spaceships.

So my question. Is EVE Online a game of violence? Is it rated more violent than Starcraft or WOW? Or maybe less violent than COD and Battlefield.

"gunman Adam Lanza playing games ranging from the military strategy "Starcraft" to kid-friendly "Dance Dance Revolution," neither of which rank among the more violent titles on the market."
CNN.com Article.

"The Supreme Court has struck down a California law that would have banned selling "violent" video games"

This was a while back but still relevant. The fact that it had to be denied means it could be put back in front of them again. This time scooped Federally. Could be passed eventually and If the court or one of our dear leaders decides to drop a bann on violent video games where does EVE fall into the mix? Servers are not held with-in the US so.

Lucky for us, we live in the US, where the internet is unfiltered. So correct me if I'm wrong, but the government wouldn't be able to ban an Icelandic piece of software.

Also, you don't see people die in this game, which is probably what gets peoples' underwear in a bunch. Sure, every time you loose a battleship hundreds of poor SOBs get violently suffocated/frozen/blown to pieces. But you don't see it, so mothers won't care as much.

Also, sweet name yo.

So, if i import a chinese sub-machine gun it's not a problem?

Origin of the product is unimportant, they can ban whatever they want inside their own borders :p

Also video games have been ruled as protected under the 1st amendment so anyone that wants to ban video games in the US can suck it Big smile

There are probably more Americans now that play video games then don't and most of them have some level of violence.

So why every time your average run of the mill nut job does something heart crushing to a bunch of average people they read out a list of very average games played by the shooter as well as every very average non homicidal person the shooters age. It is practically inevitable these days.

If an individual cannot tell the difference between a video game and realty than that individual should not play violent video games but whos going to stop them?

Google removes or buries search results they don't want people reading all the time.

But more on topic, i do find the prevalence of violence in videogames a little strange. Nearly every game is about killing. I don't find such games offensive and even enjoy some of them, but it still strikes me as unusual how they feature that instead of anything else.

But i don't necessarily think they're causing the violence. I think it may be just another symptom of people being more violent. Entertainers don't tell people what entertains them, they merely provide what already does.

EVE isn't violent. No blood, no gore. Hell, there isn't even physical fighting and there's only implied death.

I should have been more specific in one of my statements There are no provisions of the US constitution that grant any individual the 'right' to do anything. Being born into this world gives us that right. It wasn't given to you by some fascist governing body. You own it. The First and Second Amendment only 'recognize' that right. As with all the Constitutional Amendments. Understanding this difference is more important than you might think. Considering the potential risks of having it taken from you. Know where we are headed? Down the road of Tyranny.

i just find it laughable that they'd rather ban a few video games than ban guns.

looking at other countries the difference is the lack of guns not the lack of video games.

There isn't even implied death! We Don't Die!...........EVER!

Some videogames I can see as being way too violent. But, it's the parents responsibility to control what media is available to their children. They're looking for a quick fix, because parents are too ******* lazy...

Case in point. I worked for EBgames (GameStop in US) and I had a child come in with his mother to buy GTA: Broken physics edition. I asked the mother if she wanted to buy this for child. She said, and I quote. "Isn't it like Mario? That's what my child tells me."

It's not the industry, it's the parents.

Similar as blaming prostitution on the porno industry...

Weapons are not the issue. PPL are the issue. Just 2 days before the shooting in CT a guy in Japan walked into an elementary school with a knife and started stabbing kids. If you take weapons away in the US, which can't be done even if they ban them. (there are to many in circulation) it will only take them out of the hands of honest people. Leaving most defenseless.

"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."

One of the strongest reasons to not revoke our recognized rights.

Record sales have been reported all over the US for weapon sales in the last 72 hours. Stores selling out of rifles and pistols in a single day.
