And yes this proposed change would effect the mechanics... while you think its purely graphical, what you don't understand is that Missiles are actually units stored on the server and thus their path is actually a factor in their range... this is why a dram moving at your tangent with MWD going can actually out run some missiles without being out of "range." This is the very reason why Drakes Blobs were used for so long, the extra communication of all those missiles was a way to cause lag storms for advantages in pvp. While CCP was reduced the amount of communication, their path is still a major function in their range, as it is most missiles actually have a max distance thats a little under their proposed range (flight time * velocity) ... i've done numerous tests on this. And this range gets shorter the more tangent the vector of your target.

CCP needs to focus on more pressing issues... like releasing new ships, more content, more t2 mods... and cross the board changes that will help encourage new players to stay, while encouraging the growth of null sec....

As it stands... graphics for missiles is probably the bottom of the pile of **** to do. It took several years of complaining to finally get hybrids to be approached... I imagine they will get to graphics on missiles about the time the make the Moa look good enough to fly.

You don't want fun; you want new shiny toys.
You don't want to fix what's wrong, you want to build on top of it.
You don't want entertainment; You want it to be straight forward and simple.

Why not have the spinning a factor in the trajectory? What's wrong with it, seriously besides being different and not a Shiny new Ship for you to cure your boredom? I see it as a whole new chance factor. If the missile mid-spin ends up on the butt end of it's target moving around 600 m/s and misses? Well now that guy having a bad day because of the BS that missiles never miss unless you're doing ridiculous speeds with a nice inertia is now happy because just like his projectiles(that travel faster; can aim ahead of the target easier; and track better) that miss it's target occasionally, the projectile missiles do the same.

You want new players to stay? Discuss the learning skills and how much a person is overwhelmed by it and how they sit for a month doing lvl 1's in a frigate because they can't decide what to do? Or that they choose to go into a cov ops amarr bomber only to find out at 5mil SP they just boned themselves without realizing it? Now they can't do incursions for the next 2 months because they have to train for a shield tanked amarr BS?

I don't want a shiny new ship. I want my old ship to be shinier and more entertaining!
Gosh, all you "hard working men" are the same. Always want new shiny toys that you'll get bored with in a month and then complain cause you've got nothing else new to aim for.

Be happy with what you have and fix it.

Leave the missiles as they are.

Do something with launcher graphics instead. Even if it is just a plate in the ship coming open at an angle.

I'm sick of seeing the missiles always just come out of the center of the ship. But that's just my two cents.

Heres how i thought about doing it.

First you need to code in a missile core.

This core is invisible, but for all intents and purposes functions like the classic missile basically you just remove the model it makes. It wil launch from the center of the ship as it currently does (which is the major problem with redoing missiels) and it has hp and all the goodies other than being visible.

Now the fun part, you do the artwork around the core that follows it.
