I would explain the issue, but certain group doesn't want you to know the truth and will just delete my post.

The reason it often pops up after a patch is that their might be minor changes/upgrades/fixes to Eve's client-server protocol which can cause some of the shaping software to misidentify the stream.

I work for an ISP, specifically the bit that handles traffic management hardware and we've never seen Eve misclassified following a patch. Those patches don't change the traffic signature at all really.

Still, it's a good theory. Traffic Management devices could affect this, but being as the timeout for Eve is pretty long, the ISP would have to be seriously congested, or actively discarding the packets for it to cause a problem.

Oh, and I've seen the socket closed 3 times in the last week....

I'll cancel my subscription if I keep losing ships. I can't make any progress if I can't cover the costs of the ships I'm losing because of connection problems. It seems like a waste of time to me.

Is there a specific DEV who deals with the issues and workarounds forum?

It's been weeks and no one will communicate with us on what is being done to fix the Socket Closed issues many are having.

And no, it's not Steam.

It's not on our end. I've been playing for two years and nothing until inferno patch.

No, it's not country specific.

Oh this is a problem? I assumed my Internet was having a Off Month....

My example was actually from a devblog/devpost some time back (might be a year ago or so).

Where they changed something in EvE's header format and some or at least one shaping software decided to classify it as bulk.

The issues where solved when CCP managed to track down the manufacturer and got them to reinstate Eve as an interactive protocol.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

That could well do it!

Actually I rarely have disconnects...I only get "This socket has been closed" when I start Eve but do not log into the character screen for a long time (like half an hour or so). Probably the problem is on the Hardware (Yours not CCP´s) or the provider side?

I don't think its due to ISPs or traffic shaping, etc. one guy I know has 2 accounts and one of them constantly gets the socket closed error and the other doesn't - he had no problems before the inferno patch that introduced them. Even a complete blank reinstall of the game, playing on his home, work or mobile connections and setting up the account thats having problems on a completely new laptop with its own installation hasn't fixed it.

Its a very strange issue.

So bottom line is, there's no fix for this major problem that has caused seven of my Eve buddies to quit?

Greetings fellow evers

I have had this issue myself.

I was using two clients and had never come across this problem before, I was using my wireless connection at the time and wanted to switch to my lan connection as I was transferring files at the same time but wireless was to slow for me. WITHOUT login out I activated my lan and disconnected my wireless. BANG!!! SOCKET CLOSED (two boxes saying the same message only on the one account).

Since then I hadn't been able to login to that account for more than 3 seconds to a max of 5 minutes at a time before the same TWO boxes appear yet my other account would login no issue.

Not saying this will fix your problem, the way that I have gotten my account to work again without seeing this error now for 3 days is opening the 26000 port TCP on my modem for ccp and directing the IP to my computer using the eve clients.

So far I haven't seen that cheeky error come back to bite me.

I REALLY hope this helps some of you out as I know what its like to buy a game and not being able to play it *cough* bf3

I believe from this that CCP has nothing to do with it, nor the ISP. Computers are strange beast and anyone that has had random sh** happened that just can't explain it well enough said.... the ghost code in computers is real.

Eve is quite resilent to network issues (delays, packet loss, drops and so on) which makes tracking the actual problem even harder.

You sure? I always thought EVE was VERY intolerant of dropped packets.

This happens to me on a fairly regular basis, and only since i've recently come back. It's gone into a lull in the past week or two, but before that it was dropping me pretty hardcore on both accounts at once, sometimes right after I've logged in. I didn't wait at the character screen, just started chatting in corp and BEWM! Slot Closed, restart...again...restart, again...wash, rinse, repeat until it decides to stop.

Traveling through different countries and playing from different networks i see this quite frequently, for example on 3G connections (in particular t-mobile) i get this all the time, from my home ADSL connection, not once (touch wood) from hotels... sometimes...

For me, It almost always coincides with some sort of network latency issue. I usually get outlook moaning that its temporarily lost connection to the server at the same time or genesys telling me im no longer signed in... Not that it helps you folks, whenever i get it... i switch to another network.

This used to happen to me a lot. Until one day, I had to do some router maintenance (updating firmware) so I got a long cord and plugged my laptop in, and for no reason in particular, left it that way. Hasn't happened since - 0 socket closes since I've had my laptop plugged in to the router.

Of course, I understand this isn't always conveniently plausible for everyone, but if it is, I suggest you try it.

Seriously fix this problem.

How is it on my end when I've never had this problem before..

Haven't switched computers, ISPs, or even routers. New expansion hits and socket closed over and over again.

I'm having the same problem , not often once or twice a day. This started with the roll out. I have had this happen a couple of times before after a major update. I actually spent several hours researching it last time ( not going to do it again). It was a fail at a specific router in London, I'm in the US. It has always seemed to clear up after a few weeks in each instance so I'll wait for the issue to resolve.
I posted this because it was never an issue with my router or ISP in the past so I'm assuming its not this time.
