Im relatively new to Eve and was wondering as to how get access to higher level agents. I know that you have to do missions for that specific corporation to get access to their agents.

Does doing missions for say Lai Dai, increase my faction (Caldari) standings?
Does increasing faction standings allow me to access Lvl 2-3-4 and such agents from other corporations in relation to my standing with that faction in this case Caldari?

These are pretty nooby questions, but any help/clarification is appreciated, as I have been frustrated in my lack of access to other agents.
* I did get the connections and social skills*

Faction standings will allow you to access agents for that faction (any corp). Faction standings are gained by completing the storyline* missions that are offered after completing 16 regular missions.

* They are called storyline missions because the type of agent that offers them is labled as "storyline"; not because there is any storyline that connects the missions.

To access a regular agent your agent, corp or faction standings must meet the agent's required standing. It does not matter which of those three standings meets that requirement as long as none of those three standing are below -2.0.

Actually a good long while ago the -2 restriction was lifted.

When that was still around the only way to fix a -10 was to do "remote" grinding, i.e. Working for Gallente to get good with Minmatar. And it'd be even slower...

Now a days L1 agents will talk to you no matter how bad you are so you at least have a way to fix things.

The standings needed are:
1 - any
2 - 1.0
3 - 3.0
4 - 5.0
5 - 7.0

If you get this kinda of standing with a faction then you instantly gain access to all of the agents of that levels for every corp in the faction.

The one exception (i think) is R&D agents, which need the corp standing regardless.

The -2 restriction is only lifted for level 1 agents. You can always work for level 1 agents of any corp.

If you want to mission for level 2, 3, 4 or 5 then you need -2 or higher for all of faction, corp and agent standings, and +1/+3/+5/+7 respectively for one of faction, corp or agent.

The -2 was only lifted from level one agents.

So having Lai Dai at 5.0 but Caldari at -3.0 means you can still only access level 1 agents.

Be aware that the empires like/dislike each other, and those Storyline missions that raise your faction with the entire Caldari will lower it with the entire Gallente and Minmatar (and raise it a bit with the entire Amarr).

Under the Social skill group, Connections will give you an immediate boost (0.4 points or less) with anyone you're positive with, and Diplomacy will give you an immediate boost with anyone you're negative with. You can, however, max out these skills and still end up largely negative with an empire, which will make their Navy NPC's shoot you when you enter their systems (if you get below -5).

It's possible to be positive with everyone by doing missions for two opposing empires (Amarr and Minmatar for example), but it will level out at about +4 or so, and you won't be able to reach the high standings that offer the tax reduction and POS deployment by doing that.

On the other hand, by refusing storyline missions, you can raise your standings to +8 or higher with any corp, even if they belong to enemy empires, and thus get access to jump clones and reduced taxes in the stations belonging to that corp.

When picking a corp to do missions for, plan out your agent progression. Some corps have higher level agents only in lowsec.
