EVE crashes when you open map screen causing EVE to be unplayable

Since Retribution, I've had an issue where I want to open up my map, however I open it then my screen goes a bit weird and in a way it looks like flashing screen at top screen and bottom (Its hard to explain the flashy screen thing)

Then the screen freezes, you click anything it wont work, you wait nothing happens, you know you are doomed when all you can do is close the EVE cilent down or turn your computer off and on.

Today, I log into EVE and this is worse than ever, I open map. Does it again. It is unplayable when this keeps happening because I REQUIRE the map screen to play EVE. Sad

While typing this I was able to get a screenshot but it didn't even show the situation for some reason.

My specs:

Macbook Pro late 2009
OS: Snow Leopard
Graphics card: Nvidia 9400M
CPU: 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Is anyone else getting this problem or know a fix or if this will be patched??

Does not happen to me. Must be a special case of you graphics hardware. Bug report it.

Exactly same problem here. Open map and screen goes corrupted by green blocks and you have to do hard reboot.

This happens every time I'm docked up now. Its impossible to open the map while docked up at a station which is extremely annoying.

I now know I'm not the only person receiving the issue, maybe it has something to do with the Nvidia Graphic card problem?

I just resubscribed to the game last night and installed it for the first time in about a year. The map worked fine last night before the patch, and after the patch installed today, I have to restart my 2008 macbook pro each time the map bugs out(with 2.8ghz core 2 duo processor and a 9600mGT.) If I can't use the map, I can't play properly, correct? Um, will we get a fix soon? You shouldn't fix what ain't broke. I expect they'd work on a fix. If my game is broken for the full 2 months, I won't be able to navigate in my space game, and I won't resubscribe. I might ask for my money back if this bug is here to stay.

Yes, this happens while docked.

Is any known fix happening? Looks like an Nvidia card issue, anyone got an Atari card or whatever and getting this issue also?

I got a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and no issue. So it would seem to be a NVIDIA 9400 issue.

Ah, the joys of making sure new software works on all the hardware configurations on the planet........

Someone with an Nvidia 9600GT got this issue also so maybe its an older Nvidia card issue.

Still not patched up and just makes playing EVE hard as I have to undock just to open a map :/. its very hard when you've got pirates camping a station who will simply blow you up when you undock. Straight

Same issue here, activating the map crashes the client. i'm now running EVE in window-mode (1280x800), at least i can minimize it, doing so i don't need to hard reboot. sry, my english is not so well.

This topic isn't dead really though.

I still have the issue. It's been happening since Retribution launched which is over a month ago.

Last time I opened map just now to see if it still happens my computer screen went all weird, bright flashes of multiple colored lights appeared all over the client and my Firefox browser was flashing, and as well as anything else, flash goes black then normal black then normal.

So this topic isn't dead as this is still an on-going issue. It annoys me still that I can never open map in stations anymore.

I've had a similar issue as well. The client crashes whenever I go to map mode and the dialog box "getting data" (?) comes up. It just freezes and I get an error box saying Eve froze.

Count me in -_-.
Tried resetting cache. It "worked" the main acc,at first, but failed at the alt acc. Now the main acc has it again.
Although, I read somewhere that it is a stupid star map setting. I forgot to switch it when it was working at that moment. I will try it out. It is quite an annoying bug though.

Using tablet, typoes are common and I'm not going to fix them all.

Same problem here, along with everything that's already been said about attempts to remedy the situation.

Relevant specs:
OSX 10.6.8
Nvidia 9600m GT 512MB

Of note:
When launching the client proper, severe graphical irregularities initially occur before the black fade-in to the login screen.

Upon attempting to open the map, this exception gets thrown repeatedly in the Console log while the client is frozen until I force it to close:

2/22/13 9:52:56 PM kernel NVDA(OpenGL): Channel timeout!

So it seems it's some issue related to OpenGL on (older and/or mobile?) Nvidia GPU's.

It's unfortunate I can't seem to figure out a way to generate a direct program log the way Logserver does for Windows users, which generates a log identical to the one seen in the in-client debugging monitor (CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+M), which is useless since it stops working once the client freezes and there's no way of copying/saving it once frozen.

An update on the situation.

I still got this problem, CCP needs to look into it because It's really annoying me now and I can't even view the map while docked. I want to check things while docked because im in low sec, I can not, I have to undock; situations like this are very annoying.

Please can CCP view this issue and fix it ASAP please?

It also does not matter what graphics settings you have, it will crash.

I was wondering if any devs looked at this thread because a dev has not replied to this thread at all, making us think that no action is being taken.

Since nothing has happened for over two months we don't know whether this will be fixed or not.

Please update us.

I've finally gotten around to filing a proper bug report based on the instructions here and here, including the output from the command-line initiated logging mode and the export file from System Profiler. Anyone else still experiencing this issue should do the same so the bug hunters and devs have as much information to go off of as possible.
