An old anime series from the 1990's, probably my favourite. Recently the series has been rebooted using the original plot and it is bloody awesome.

And then I found the teaser for the third film here.

ALL OF MY MONEY Shocked

What's interesting is that this comes on the heels of a chap called Scifi Debris reviewing both of the Evangelion films so far. I know that anime, and Eva in particular isn't for everyone, but thought it was worth a shout out as I squeed like a fanboy when I saw the teaser.

Nifty. I liked the original mostly for the weird ass ending :)

Evangelion is probably the only anime I haven't seen yet. I just can't bring myself to watch it for some odd reason...

It's a pretty entertaining show, and a classic. I can understand people not wanting to watch it though, it got bleak pretty fast.

End Of Evangelion was even worse due to all the imagery and utterly depressing themes in it.

Still worth a watch though.

Oddly enough, it was the first, because I don't count DBZ nor Pokemon, that I ever saw.

first series is action, and pretty much a totally ****** up and extremely depressing and dark ending, if you see the End of Evangelion episodes, which are, pretty much a second ending. First ending is... pretty much Freud playing with birds in your brain.

Evangelion Rebirth (think that's the name given to the 4-movie series reboot), is still ****** up, but much less depressing, until now that is.

the main character at the very least has grown a backbone, compared to the first series where it was totally inexistant.

I had the original on VHS, back in those days.

But the ending really made me feel stupid, I still don't get it.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

the guy who made the series was fresh out of rehab when it was writing the script. also he had a very bad case of depression, and apparently he likes mind-****.

due to the success of Eva tho, he's now millionaire, is married and has 3 kids and life seems better for him.

Old? By extension, I guess that makes me old...

I liked the way the plot unfolded in the original series, and I really liked what they did with the EoE movie. I caught some online streaming of YANA and YCNA, I liked them as well, and the changes to certain characters makes them easier to like

All anime roads lead to Evangelion at some point, for better or for worse.

Personally, i already didn't really like it as much because i started watching it right after finishing Slayers/Next/Try, soi had some perspective on what a decent anime looked like :P

Originally Evangelion was meant to follow the lines of the first few episodes of the original series, but the writer thought he could be super-pretentious and really mucked the rest of it up, with dark, depressing and simply nonsensical storylines as a result. It's the reason he keeps trying to redo the ending, he wrote himself into a corner he couldn't get out of.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

as I said, he was fresh out of rehab and under a depression when he started writing it all. tbh I look at NGE as the final product of a medicated maniac-depressive and his daily visits to a shrink.

Same here, I preferred the original series with the original ending. I haven't watched any of the rehash stuff.

I reccomend it, its hard to tell if its a reboot or a sequel sometimes, theres evidence it could be either or something else entirely.

Having read about the writers depression, the Congratulations at the end of the original series can be taken to mean he himself got past his demons as opposed to the characters. I always prefered to see it this way, as at least one persons life was made better by the... loosely defined ending.

And Eva's not that old, its from 1995, so just 17 years old. Look how old Star Wars is. Pirate

new rehash movies are only "somewhat" alike in the first. second has some very tiny similarities and quite some more action. third, I can't wait for it, considering it's totally a departure from the original story line.
