Filling in the gaps: Battleships to Capital Ships

I am beginning to become a more experianced eve player, and I have began training for a carrier (not sure which yet), but the gap between bs's and cap ships is massive. Not to mention the steep price and fitting it, also the risk of having it destroyed every time you undock in low sec.

Well here is my proposal:

There have been a few ideas floating around that would help fill in the gaps and i thought I would make a new thread to help compile some of the ideas. The Destroyers and battlecruiser gaps have been filled and don't need to be messed with , maybe some minor tweaking. The only thing left would to be expand on the bigger ships in game.

Dedicated Drone Carrier: a dedicated sub-carrier class that is a drone boat. It could wield 10-15 drones, and possibly field a few fighters. This gives you some training for a carrier (Maybe bs 4, high drone skills for requirements on it), but mainly to fill a gap between bs's and cap ships. *Note, this is a drone boat, not a carrier. It won't be able to use a triage module* It could be high sec or low sec, a little bigger than a bs (in my opinion), and maybe anywhere from 500-800mil in cost. **note no capital ship tank, just battleship tank. No Turret or Launcher hardpoints

Sub Dreadnought Class: Self explanatory, a larger bs class that can go into siege mode. It is possible to rig an abbadon into fitting XL turrets and citidel launchers, which looks awesome but you can't really do anything... What about serving as a mobile siege platform? As in the game "Steller Impact", one of the DLC ships you can purchase is a platform looking ship with a big ******* gun on it. The sub dreadnought would essentially be the same thing. It would yield a single XL turret or citidal launcher, be able to go into siege mode and match about 1/3 the dps of a dreadnought (maybe more or less). So to balance making this not better than a dreadnought, the cost should be about 500 - 900mil price. Bs 4 in skills, higher tier skills and at least 1 XL turret or launcher 1. **note no capital ship tank, just battleship tank, or maybe an upgraded Naga, Talos or tornado or something. 1 turret or launcher hardpoint

Logistic Battleship Class: Since the 3 tiers of bs's are all based around being gun or missile boats (and the one ECM), why not have a dedicated tanking ship and a logi ship between carriers and cruisers? Essentially to fill the gap between cruisers and carriers, giving a bigger logi ship. This would essentially be the other half of the drone boat idea, just splitting a carrier up into 2 ships. Now to balance, considerable training will be involved (Of course leading onto a carrier) as well as a steep price. I guess 500-750mil a ship. Maybe a few turret hardpoints or launchers and some drones.

A Strategic Battleship: Essentially a T3 battleship (yes it sounds overpowered but here me out). If I can out dps my blaster rohk in tengu, then maybe there is promise here. Basically the same rules as a T3 cruiser apply, you can fit any way you want to. The 5 standard subsytems for each race already in use. On the downside, judging from what strategic cruisers can do, these T3 bs's would be better than titans. My counter solution, Tons of training and expensive. The essential hull would be about 2.5-5bil in cost, along with subsystems tacking on another 5 bil. Estimated to be about 10 bil in cost just for the base, not to mention faction fitting and deadspace fitting. The plus side to fitting this ship is a damn good tank, excellent dps (higher or matching a machariel or Vindy) along with a brand new customizable hull. It sounds overpowered, by cost stimulates the idea.

A Strategic Frigate: Essentially a T3 frigate. Only about 6 turrets and very expensive. I guess about 100-250mil for one, but essentially wielding good dps and a good tank.

A new T2 Orca? It has been mentioned, possible mixing some guns/missiles or drones onto it to give some point defense. This would give some more protection over gankers, and maybe encourage more miners to move out to lowsec and zap some rocks. Also much more training and a steeper price.. *maybe a few turret hardpoints and drones

There is really a lot of places we could go with ships. For instance, I would love to have a strategic battleship

Some call it rust, but I, I call it an extra layer of armor. Trust in the rust! Big guns kind of help in that situation as well...

yeah, I'd like a battleship with 15 ogre IIs please. No way that could ever be overpowered or anything.

I like the siege mode battleship, however it should be a squishy vessel with 0 ability to fight sub caps effectively and be used more as an anti captial ship vessel. Also 500-800mil? Might as well buy a vindicator and use that to blap things.

A logistics battleship makes sense but it should have some sort of drawback and advantage over current t2 logistics which is already fairly OP. A shorter range and reduced mobility in exchange for more powerful repair systems would make sense, maybe.

The drone carrier is just fuckin OP sounding, no way. Dominix already fills this roll extremely effectively. The ungodly dps 15 ogres could **** out is insane for a sub capital. On top of their excellent tracking versus battleships and their effectiveness when using sentries.

the t2 orca already exists, its a rorqual.

I would also like to know when CCP plan to fill the void between Frigates and Destroyers. I think a Frigoyer would really improve my EvE experience.




Sorry for the sarcasm, but I'm getting tired of this sort of thought process. There is no gap between BS's and capitals. They are the progression. CCP are also reducing the training in racial BS required for capitals from level 5 to level 4. It will be easier to get into them.

Also, would you not say that the price difference between Battlecruisers, Battleships and Capitals is in sequence? A T2 fitted tier 2 BC is about 75 mill. A T2 fitted tier 2 BS is about 5 times that at about 350 mill. A T2 fitted Dread is about 5 times that at about 1.8 bill.

The Dominix and Rattlesnake already exist.

With proper skills and mods you can effectively make the 5 drones each of those ships use equal to 15+ drones.

Also... I never understand why people think they need to "train themselves" to use a carrier better. It's either an oversized logistics ship that can't move or a MUCH tankier Dominix/Rattlesnake with no actual weapons. There is nothing really "new or interesting" about carriers besides the jump drive (and cyno mechanics) and the ship maintenance bay.
