Advice for Gallente Level 4 mission ship choice - lowish skills

Okay goal first, since everyone tells me that's what Eve is predicated on. The primary goal here is to earn ISK to try out more things in Eve, with the standings and LP being a side bonus. My current bankroll is circa 400M ISK.

I had just recently gotten standings to try L4s, so I did so in my Myrmidon. I have Battlecruiser V and Rail Spec IV, but only Gallente Drone Spec 2 and Heavy Drone 2 - so no Ogre IIs or sentries. I got through a couple Level 4 missions but then got blown up before I could get out of _In_the_Midst_of_Deadspace_. I have pretty strong core skills for active armor, cap, turret weapons, general fitting - i.e. all those kind at 4 or 5.

I general I had wanted to resist battleship so I could focus on being better on smaller ships. But I broke down and bought Gallente Battleship and Large Hybrid skillbooks.

Should I:

1) Go back to the Myrm, pay better attention, decline some missions (based on eve-survival), and work to boost drone skills?

or, get the Battleship level skills to 3? 4? and...

2) Buy a Hyperion to complement active armor and turret skills. Use Meta guns until I can shoot/afford T2s.
3) Buy a Megathron (as above)
4) Buy a Dominix, but don't bother flying a Level 4 until I can use Ogre IIs and/or Garde IIs.

No, I'm not panicked about the new NPC AI versus drones, but I acknowledge that both my character skills and personal skills in using drones are not top-tier by any means.

Thanks in advance

Earning ISK from missions will be directly tied to your damage output. 450 dps is pretty solid. Above 600 is fast missioning.

You seem to be about 60 days from doing much with drones. So, if you're willing to wait, the Domi is best for that.

Otherwise use the Mega, with long range rails and an afterburner.

The Hyperion probably isn't worth your time at this point.

I would suggest definitely getting your BS skills up to at least 4. I have never tried the mega, but find the navy mega very effective, so can only assume the standard one will work as well, maybe a little less damage. Use a domi only if you have really good drone skills, ie T2 sentry, or it will be slow going. Hyperion has great DPS but needs really good skills to make it work. I use meta 4's 425 rails on my navy mega and it works great, and make sure you fit a web.

Thanks - I'll aim for a Mega I think. I see some fits on BattleClinic with the 425 Meta4s that I can do with my fitting skills. Interesting that most I see there don't have a web if that's suggested - I assume that's so you can get the pesky frigates that are outpacing your drones?

Should I go for a 3x Ogre I + 2x Hammerhead II for my primary drone mix, or focus more on the mediums for frigate rats?

Not quite sure after looking over the stats why the Hyperion isn't a good choice though. Maybe I'm just too use to active armor tanking, but I would have thought that would be a good bonus - and the drones would help take care of the things I couldn't track. Is the Hyperion just harder to fit well for PVE due to grid/CPU or somesuch?

Hype is a bit harder to fit than a Mega (unless you downgrade to 350s, which I wouldn't recommend). The lack of lows can hold your damage down a bit in comparison as well. It's not a bad choice though; it just takes a different approach to fitting.

As for drones... The Mega has a generous bay (compared to the Hype) so playing around with drones is an option. Normally a max damage mix isn't ideal; I'd try out a flight of mediums, a flight of lights, and some spares to start with. Not sure what I'd do with the Hype at the moment tbh.
