Hi all - looking for some assistance to get EVE running on my iMac. The game starts, but the screen freezes. The music starts playing, but eventually, it all craps out with an exception.

I've posted a petition with details, but no response at this stage. Tried many of the things out there (copying fonts, deleting caches, starting outside the launcher, running windowed etc) but no joy.

2010 27" iMac Quad Core i7
8Gb RAM
ATI Radeon HD4850 512Mb RAM

Interestingly, runs fine on my 15" Macbook Pro

2010 15" Macbook Pro i7
4Gb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT330M 512 Mb RAM

Further details on the exception:

Exception raised
Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000322 at address 0x762f4915

the addresses never change for me in the above exception. Looking at the stack trace, it looks like a graphics issue. d3d9.dll and d3dgl.dll sound a lot like DirectX stuff to me, although I've been out of the Windows ecosystem for a while:

I copied the cache folder between the Macbook and the iMac. EVE no longer shows the EULA screen, but freezes in the same way at the login screen. Tried to get beyond the login screen but it crashes out too quickly.

I've found a workaround!

Install Parallels
Install Windows 8 Preview
Download the Windows client
Install the Windows client

Enjoy.

EVE looks like it is running under Wine anyway, so no harm in switching one emulator for another. Performance is good - definitely playable. It's a shame that the Mac client is so flaky.

Are you serious ? O_O

What's your machine, and what's your fps during fights ? x:

Yeah. It actually runs pretty well. I do a lot of solo mining ATM, so FPS hasn't been a problem thus far. I have all detail set to high, with Medium Post Processing. Only issue is some screen flashing occasionally. I haven't been able to work out what the factors are that cause it yet, but moving the camera makes it go away.

I'm running on a 27" Quad Core i7 with 8GB RAM.

Like I said, the game is running under emulation with the "native" client anyway. The emulator looks wine-ish but is some custom version. Just updated to Parallels v8 and performance is fine. If FPS becomes an issue, I have plenty of wriggle room for lowering the graphics detail. One other thing - EveMon runs under windows as well :)
