It looks like they were humoring her to some degree, but I see your point.

I would counter with Dr Tyson.

My own view is that to get people motivated you have to appeal to a base instinct, hence the controversy as they are going for the jugular as more people become hysterical. Realistically, build a damn, and have a competent policy for transition to phase out using fossil fuels, if only because we are importing the stuff from unstable parts of the world.

yes but then the treehuggers will come saying that damns will ruin the area's ecosystem.

yes but then the treehuggers will come saying that damns will ruin the area's ecosystem.

They can choose, modify human behaviour and enable a planetary scale coordinated, legaly enforced policy which requires the USA, China and India to go to and surpass the EU's regulations.

Or focus locale and manage the land around where we live. Regardless of how much humanity is warming the planet, it is hardly unnatural for it to change climate over long periods of time and we developed civilisation between an interglacial period, a very long period of stability.

Personally I think anthropogenic emissions have been overblown, but we are still left with the same problem to be resolved regardless of cause.

Seems to me that we go through Ice Ages periodically, time moves on and the sun is a cyclical power source not of constant output. I don't get why people have such issues with superposition of multiple causes as if by admitting that the sun could change its power output that means that C02 has nothing at all to do with climate change.

The planet isn't sentient, it doesn't give a crap if we go extinct, we are essentially engineering the Earth to remain in the optimal conditions for human life that we became a species within. Life doesn't evolve in a static environment, but we don't need to evolve as our capacity for change is now determined by our brain. It annoys me how pretentious it is when people say they are "saving the world" by reusing a plastic bag. I work part time in a shop, this line gets said around 30-40 times a day to me? People are only saving themselves a fraction by doing this, if you want to do geoengineering (which is what all attempts to resist climate change are) we need national level infrastructure, which the same people oppose for the same reason they reuse a bag.

tl;dr Immaterial if its humans causing climate change as all outcomes from blame takes us to the same place other reasonable arguments that a rational long term thinking society should enact.
