After reading many posts about the limited number of drones that can be controled, and seeing how few ship loadouts use more than 2 drone control unit, is it not possibe to remove the module and replace the ability granted by Advanced drone interfacing with "allows the control of 1 additional drone per level" For a total of 10 drones with drones 5 and advanced drone interfacing 5?

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

DCUs fit on carriers and supercarriers only. Using a module forces a pilot to choose between a DPS fit and a full rep fit.

All the nonfail sanctum grinding thanny fits have a full rack of drone control units aside from at most one smartbomb.

Pvp fits really shouldn't have any dcus. What you're seeing seem like some kind of pve/pvp hybrid failfit.

Some regular carriers tank sanctums and have a companion BS to assist with DPS and salvaging. the BS is usually max gank fitted to exclude local tank, so relies upon the carrier for cap (if using lasers) and/or reps. So 2-3 DCUs on the carrier at most. Such a BS can put out near 1k DPS at long range, so it is pretty benificial.

As said though, using DCUs makes the pilot choose. It may be a weird system, but you get use to it easily enough

Many thannatos fits are as follows
Triage module
Capital shield transfer
Large smart bomb
Dcu/capital shield transfer
Dcu

Aside from cap ships though, this change could give sub cap drone ships a chance to do some damage before the drones get destroyed from a smart bomb or in the point of sentry drones get blasted from long range weapons

A BS won't come close to a 1870 dps ratting thanny. The carrier's paper dps is pretty close to applied, often better than BS's 1k, as with a few omnis, fighters track large Sanctum rats perfectly, where BS has range/tracking. There's always TPs too, if you really want to hit well. Tanking in a carrier is cake, what else would you put in those spare mids?

There's no real reason to gimp the carrier that's majority of your dps anyway. Whatever dps you gain in BS by removing tank and gimping the carrier, will be less than that lost by the carrier.

My golem comes close to 1870, at decent range, with multiple TPs to assist. 5 DCUs, those spare mids can be used for Sebos to make the carnage go faster.

Travel time, fighters do like 2100m/s. Time spent moving means less dps.

Tracking. they don't always hit. BS guns are more reliable. Oh, and omni's don't work on fighters.

Fighters get aggro? Yep, have to recall......bye bye paper dps.

In what world does the one fighter lost from the carrier to fit a RR instead of DCU outweigh the DPS gain from a gank-fit BS? lol

DCU's are used for pve, plain and simple. Sometimes you'll see them in full gank carrier/SC hotdrops, but that's pretty rare. In any case, a typical pve carrier will have 3 or 4 of them. Though it varies some, I typically run with 3 DCU's, a smartbomb and an RR. The RR is to keep my fighters repped although I sometimes bring along a BS for extra dps, in which case that gets reps as needed as well obviously. The reason for their existence is to force a choice between dps and utility (reps, triage, neuts).
