Was wondering if anyone flies a Gila or Ishtar in missioning now with the new AI changes. Thinking about getting a Gila, but don't want to spend the ISK if its pointless.

I want to change gears a bit and use either a Gila or Ishtar for a while - it has multiple purpose, they fixed the full room agro bug, and I may want to venture outside my space for a while.

Can anyone provide some insight? I'm normally fly BSes. Would have to get used to speed tanking and such.

i still use a ishtar for L4s i just change to Tech 1 light drones so dont matter if get blown up. You just have to really keep a eye on them now.I use a passive shield tank with a target painter for aggro the new ai does not like any form of ewar. Do you prefer shield or armor tank?

I don't really care. I'm at max on both.

The tank should be primarily based on speed, at least what everyone is telling me.

The Gila has some bonuses I like, so I'd like to go that route; however, some of the fitting is tough.

They are quite similar ships, both are rather nasty to fit, but benefit nicely from the latest buffs to drone damage modules - Garde IIs reach 554 dps with one DDA II.

You can push the Ishtar to over 1000 pre-heat dps at close range with the new officer versions [:D]

The main reason to choose one or the other would be NPC damage types- Ishtar does not handle incoming explosive damage very well, and is not optimal under EM damage. Yes, most of the damage you speed/sig tank, but you will need local tank in the beginning of spawns.

Other consideration might be Omnidirectional Tracking Links, which are easier to fit on armor-tanked Ishtar and very important modules with sentry drones. GIla would be better against Angels, but due to it's smaller sig=better real tank and better damage application (more Omnidirs), I'd choose Ishtar for Serpentis and Guristas.

I would probably get both, due to the varying factions you face as a mission-runner.

I can't speak about missions, my experience is in complexes. Somehow NPC frigates/destroyers really have a hate for small drones now. They will immediately lock on them and start shooting when i deploy my hobgoblins. My Sentries however almost never pick up any aggro. So what i do is snipe the small stuff that i can quickly with sentries and then work down what is left with small drones, being careful to recall those that are taking damage. Or have a buddy come in that takes care of the small stuff. NPCs also really 'like' EWAR and RR. So if you want someone to pick up aggro, use EWAR (even webs seem to work quite well) on the NPCs or RR your drones.

As for the tanking - Gila generally passive shield (dunno if there are active tankers). Ishtar either passive shield or active armor (natural resists make it a superb tanker against Serpentis or Guristas). Afterburner and orbit your sentries or a can that you deployed.

For the Gila, pre-Retribution, my tactics were to basically fit and fly it like a Drake, except with the roles of drones and missiles reversed - my regular fit would have RLM launchers which I'd use for frigates, using drones for heavier targets (sentries whenever I could get away with it, orbiting close around them for quick recall).

The Gila can tank really well if you have Caldari Cruiser IV or V, and if you fit for a passive shield tank. My preference for an anomaly-fit Gila used triple purgers, dual LSE's, dual invuls, shield relay and DC for tank, with MWD and dual DDA's, plus a low and a mid to play with for tank, gank, nano, or ewar to taste.

I really like the Ishtar. It's probably my favorite ship, especially since I fly one with my helper alt.

They're awesome to spider tank with, and a full rack of Gardes is deadly with supporting drone modules. The only gripe is the lack of CPU. Drone modules are CPU heavy already, and top that off with drone rigs sapping even more. This really affects what else you can fit. That said, I've not flown a Gila, but have thought about it.

The Ishtar is a no brainer. What I have trouble with is deciding on which ship the other pilot should fly. The Oracle is a natural choice (fly mostly Amarr), but I'm not liking the glass bit of glass-cannon so much.
